Very specific coco question

Yea that's what I've been doing, experimenting lol.

I'm familiar with nutrient pickup at ph levels.

I have my compost heavily amended with magnesium and calcium (I consider them macros regardless of them being labeled micros). I've noticed the high amount of calcium keeps the compost very airy, which I love.

That's how I'm hoping to dodge supplementing calmag. If not, I guess I will have to pick some up but I'm going to give it a go without first.

I appreciate the input. I have some 3 day old seedlings (cannabis) that are about to start being fed the tea.

I'm aiming for a 6.0-6.5 ph for feeding. I will update every week in my journal or post back in this thread if I run into an issue.

Thank you.
Awesome looking forward to the progress
Cheers

Hi Monk,
I'm just curious about your using 50% soil in a hempy. Never heard anyone do that before. Any problems?
JD
Well it's not soil but compost. The compost is very airy and is actually quite similar to the coco in terms of consistency and texture, but I do add coco to the compost bin for bedding. The compost has slightly more water retention than the coco but the runoff amount is basically the same as straight coco.

So far so good but it's way to early to tell. Everything is still in seedling stage.

I appreciate you stopping in. I will update weekly in my journal and post in this thread if I encounter any issues.

So your compost is partially coco as well. Sounds like a workable combo, but I'd still worry that the wet stuff down at the bottom of the hempy might cause problems. Just being a worrier, one of my traits. lol

I have pea gravel as my base in the hempys. That way it gives the roots a shelf to sit on. Dunno if it makes a difference or not, just seemed right to me.

I'm just doing this by "feel" right now since there is little to no info on the way I'm trying it, and I can't find anything on the exact way I'm doing it with the mix and just feeding tea.

If I fuck up, I have LOTS more seeds I can run. I still have a few weeks before I have to start my outdoor seeds, no spring harvest this year, so I'm under no pressure.

If this works, it's a game changer for me. I have 14 peas in one hempy that I'm going to try to pull off. If I can't keep up with the water/feed demand, I'll just transplant some out.

So I'm experimenting with multiple varieties of plants in an "unknown" to work mix, feeding an "unknown" to work regimen lol. What in the hell could go wrong?

Im kinda new to coco, was wondering what i should be supplementing in the coco, (besides nutrients and calmag) things that soil has that coco does not. I was thinking about adding a fulvic humic kelp blend...

I'm by no means a coco expert at all. I don't now, nor have I ever grown in straight coco. I've used it as an amendment to soil 60/40 or so, 60% being soil.

The thing about coco, is that it's neutral ph (or close, mine is at 6.3ph) and doesn't really have a nutrient holding capacity, which is why I blend it. That's why some people choose coco over soil. Closer to hydro that way.

If you are growing in straight coco, there are others on here that can advise you much better than I can.

Cool, i would love to learn more about it, it seems so awesome. How much are you feeding with your 60/40 mix? I know that soil still holds onto some of the feed right?

I treat it just like soil. Water when the pot is light. I feed compost tea and that's all, so if you are using bottled nutes, just follow the regimen. The soil will hold your nutes and the coco will hold the water. I also layer the whole top with coco so it dries out... Just to discourage fungus gnats.

The benefit of the coco is the massive growth in roots over a short time. Mixed with soil, you get nutrient retention just like you mentioned.

Im trying to find what i can do to boost the terps in my plant
Well soil is the way to go for that, so the 60/40 mix will work good for that or you can even go 70/30 with a little perlite for more soil.

The tea probably helps with terpine flavor and aroma too, but I can't confirm one way or the other, but I haven't got any complaints lol.

Lol nice. Why would you say added soil would increase terp content? Are you making your tea by yourself or a premix?

Imma give it a shot with MC

They say, not I say lol, that organic soil is supposed to increase terpines. Whether true or not, I dunno. I've smoked some bomb hydro that tasted and smelled great.

The tea is from my compost bin. I make it myself.
