Not too many bald eagles visit the Sandhill, but yesterday when I was on my way to town, there was one in the graveyard parking area. Majestically eating the deer remains someone had dumped there. I was going too fast to get a picture. He flew when I slowed down.

Eagles fly like they have somewhere to be, really deliberate and steady. We see one every once in awhile cruising through the neighborhood.

A couple three years back the wife and I were driving down to the riverhouse to walk, and there was a truck parked in the road. As we got close we noticed an adult and two young bald eagles a few rows into the soybean field eating a rabbit. We stopped too, and the adult picked up the rabbit and flew deeper into the field, the young ones following. That summer we saw them flying several times. Not sure where the nest was, but I'm sure it wasn't too far.

Ever seen a "Death Spiral"?
It's a mating ritual that more than one has succumbed to by not paying attention to altitude.
This is more for deer and other horned mammals, but. . . .

I've seen nature shows where the biggest males were so busy fighting that a skinny ass runt of a male will be breeding the female and they don't even notice. Smart, sneaky genes need a place in the pool too.
