The model is KS5000 , it is about a year old, done 2 runs , turned it on and nothing, I can't find any loose cables and no bad smells; it appears the ballast just died.

What can I use as a ballast, Ive emailed Viparspectra Australia yet to get a response. I cant find in my emails where I got them from which complicates things but what are my options here, is there another ballast I can buy to run this light.

Send them an email from a different email address asking info about a product you wish to purchase and when they reply change the subject to your light that should be under warranty (:

HaHa good thinking lol, be nice under warranty but I cant find the receipts, so I don't mind buying another driver, will be interesting if they will sell just a driver. if not I,ll look at rewiring it to another driver, at least Ive a good light to replace it while I get it sorted.

Google the part number on the driver you will be able to find one as they are pretty generic and only a few companies make em and these lighting companies source them

My man, skipping the line by misleading the support team when you actually need their help sounds not like the wisest thing to do.
Get your egos in check a little people are not sitting there waiting for your email and surely won't appreciate if you try and fool them.

When emails are avoided and you get no response because its a warranty claim sometimes its needed. They claim to respond within 48hrs . Nothing to do with "egos"
And what line !

Unless they want you to send it back for repair, my guess is the best you’ll get is a new driver that you will have to swap/install. You should be able to get the driver specs off the driver itself. If they don’t cover it you can use the specs to driver to figure out what replacement driver you need. If you have the equipment/ability, make sure you have power to the driver.

They say they have a 36 day warranty against manufacturer defects. They seem like a good company. They sell a LOT of lights so I guess it's not out of the question that there will e some bad ones. But, at this point in time, with all the lights out there, a good company will usually try and keep an existing customer happy rather than risk them jumping ship and leaving bad reviews, etc.

In the meantime, it might be a consideration to take advantage of the "Black Friday" deals going on (or soon will be). That way, you can deal with the KS5000 issue and have some kind of backup light(s) in the interim.

One of the nice things about the rapid advancement of grow light technology, is that ALL of the lighting technology of the last decade still works great. So, if you have been growing for awhile, like myself, you end up with excess lights -lost of "last year's models." I always want to use the latest technology, but, I know that if something goes wrong, then I can go up in the attic and grab a COB light (that I can't give away, now) or even my old magnetic ballast MH bulb, and the plants will grow just fine.

True I got a heap of spare lights, I just pulled Vipar down and hung the CMH, I still got 400 watt SonTs that I hang vertically in cool tubes, best side lighting Ive got.

OP: you could use another driver with the same spec. If you upload a pic of the drivers spec label we could help you out. For example pretty sure you could use a hlg480-54A with the volts turned up just a little (it has internal dimming, which is a drag, screwdriver in hole type shit, but it also allows for upregulating voltage to 56V).
