Viparspectra thoughts from people that have used them

I would look at utilizing 2x2 or slightly more of your space and go with a 135w quantum board kit.
If your not comfortable putting a plug on it and poking a wire in a hole then growers lights will provide it fully assembled for $25

Low heat. Good results.

And yeah 200w of QB would beat 300w of vipar.
I can attest to the accuracy of this suggestion. I have the 135w kit from HLG and it's crushing a 2x2 space with very little need for heat management.

Looking into getting a viparspectra 900watt led its right in my price range that I can comfortably spend right now and just wondering if any one has any thoughts or comments about the way these lights perform
What are you using now? Or are you totally new? Been lurking around since November and ain’t started yet? Jump in man do it! Lol

If you have 4.5 feet of height. A 150, or 250.- 300watt hps would suit you just fine. It'd be way cheaper than a viparspectra too. Well within your budget.
Honestly I'd bet a 300watt hps would out do my vipar.
If it's your first time growing indoors, IMHO just go the safe route first with hps. Then save some money, and do your homework for your next investment.
I bought my cooltube, 600watt lamp, ballast and inline fan, for half the cost of my vipar.
LED bulbs would outperform Vipar !!

Really starting to lean towards hps or cmh what size fan would I need and which would be better a xtracooled tube or just a regular air cooled one
Just work out roughly the cubic space of your grow area. There's an equation online to work out the required cfm. They recommend to replace all the air in the space every 30 - 60 seconds.
For me to replace the air in my 4X4 every 30 - 60 seconds, I went with a 6 inch inline fan.
I'm also of the opinion, of more the merrier.
As long as humidity isn't affected.
I have since gone with an 8 inch fan for extraction. I love fresh air. The plants do too.

If you only have 4.5 feet of head room, a 400watt should be fine. I'd recommend a 6 inch fan for a 400w. Grab a dimming ballast, and speed controller too.
The great thing about the air-cooled hoods, is you can use them as your main air extraction from your grow space.
In my tent the air goes like this, air - carbon filter - air hood - extraction fan. The 8 inch fan sits on top of my tent, blowing the air straight out.
At the same time a quality led will be fine. But you're still faced with the need to extract the air from your room either way.

I have a Vipar600 reflector series, it covers a 2x2 pretty well for a blurple light... not a 2x3 not even close. If you are new to growing and not into DIY shit and you can’t handle the heat then go ahead and get your feet wet with the 900 vipar. You’ll be just fine. I mean damn you’re not trying to win a cannabis cup just yet. Have fun and learn to grow. Peace
Get on HLG website and pic up quantum boards .....Will not regret !!!

If you read my original post, you'll notice I said to save more money, to buy a better led.
OP has a tight budget, and budget hid is a fraction in cost, of the viparspectra.
That's the reason I suggested hid. It's OP's first indoor grow too. Hid, plug it in, and you go. Easy, peezy.
He’ll have to vent that heat

I was surprised too. My vipar runs MUCH hotter at canopy than my hps.
Granted though, a quality led will be a lot cooler than a vipar too.

Almost anything would be a upgrade from what I have right now anyways just 2 300w ufo lights I mean they have worked decent for veg so far but my auto just isn’t thickening up like I feel it should be obviously my first time though so I really don’t know plus it was just a freebie from Seedsman

But on another note I extremely appreciate everyone’s input on the subject still on the fence about what I want to do, HID sounds the best but just don’t know if It will work for my small ass closet don’t know if I could properly vent the heat out so a quantum board is sounding better and better

What's your floor space? Like 2X2, 3X3, 4X4 etc.

If it's in your budget, go for gold dude!!!
QB is a good recommendation.
I'm delighted, as long as you don't buy a viparspectra. :peace::bigjoint:

Yep.
But like I say. One fan is plenty to extract the heat from my 600hps.
But you're right.
Welcome to the light choosing, consumer nightmare OP.
lol Yes pretty much if your room is sealed even a little bit you’re going to have some heat that you got to control

I’d say my space is about 3x3 if I’m real lucky not very deep and it’s not exactly a sealed off room it’s a closet with double sliding glass doors so I can leave them open some to let some heat dissapate but I lost a couple to my cats digging them up when they were young so I don’t dare leave the door open very wide and try to go in frequently and open the doors and let some of the excess heat out just got a little 3 speed fan blowing

Well if it was me......
I'd go a 400watt hps, with an external ballast and dimmer.

Again opinions will vary lol.
But most of the opinions you get, will work.

My hlg quantum board has never allowed the space to heat up over 82 degrees , I even add a small heater sometimes because it runs so cool as to keep it at 81/82 degrees .

What you have to remember is no matter which light you choose proper air exchange will always be needed because co2 replenishment is a vital part of plant growth. You can add co2 to do that but air exchange via an extraction fan is the simplest method.

You could open those doors your taking about and find a piece of plaster board or chip board or ply and make yourself a little wall to fit in your open doors, in which you cut a hole to insert a fan/duct to pull out the heat and old air. Ideally you would duct that air right out of your house but with a small grow you can just vent it into your room without it changing the ambient temp of the room.

I did something like this with my drying cab to remove the smell and pump it into my veg tent where the filter cleans it. A simple piece of loft board fitted nicely into the sliding glass door and a fan sucked air through the whole cab slowly. :bigjoint:

ok Tim question for you looking at a couple of hps set-ups and have a couple of questions 1. Do I really need a mh and hps bulb cuz I can only run one at a time varying reports and people say different things what’s your opinion on this 2. Do you think I would be able to get away with just a wing reflector hood since I will be running the ballast definitely not on 100% or should I get an actual air cooled hood just afraid with what I’m working with that the air cooled hood will be to heavy and big for me to hang where as the reflector hood looks like it’s a lot more light duty

Nope. Small space, short veg, hps seedling to harvest. SOG method would suit your space really well.
No bat wings either. Air cooled, or nothing. A reflector shouldn't take up more than a foot of head room. It should be around the same for an led. You still need to hang led too.
