Virtual Reality: The New Anti-Drug

Has anyone ventured into the immersive world of virtual reality? I had to see what all the rage was about, so I manically purchased a 'google cardboard' at the first chance I received. I was extremely tickled by the first experience, that l purchased a higher scale model (Destek RC-B01), which by all exclamatory points blew my mind away.

The tirade and manic release of the Oculus Rift is an unbecoming event of itself . Its surprising to say that a few years ago there was an unrelenting doubt that virtual reality would never cater to mass market demand. Now, dozens upon dozens of developers are hard at work trying to make virtual reality more applicable than merely sampling a movie or video game. Imagine an app where you can shop for clothes virtually, inside a fitting room, that perfectly contorts to your body structure, and has the ability to order them via any story that adopts a plugin. With that said, I see real life functions becoming an integral part of Oculus.

So,let me recite a hypothetical before I pause for a momentary lapse of preponderance. What are your thoughts on virtual reality and its consequences on the framework of 'so-called' reality? Do you think it becomes a clusterfuck of people hiding behind mirages and smokescreens? Or, do you see some inherit good derived from a reality that mirrors our own? For now, The 80's nerds can come out of there proverbial denial closets and shout with vigilance that virtual reality is finally here. Nothing like surfing the galaxy in the comfort of your own sofa!

Played with some oculus I goggles. or whatever.
Really PUTS YOU there.

YOU know MY theory ON the topic, @ndangerspecimen101
Where does it put you Heatless? Let us peer-to-peer inside your mind. I know you have more to say on the subject!

Well, lets address some real good for now, http://www.cnn.com/2...ard-baby-saved/.

From this angle, this is not a gamer's way to escape reality, but its an augmented tool to peer into the 4D module of reality.

Oh well. Reincarnation!

I knew the diction and form looked oddly familiar. Boy, it's been ages.

:)

Haha, that still doesn't explain the virtual reality paradox. Don't keep the 'good stuff' in Pandora's box.

I'll stick to my boring 1080p screens thanks.

I don't game anymore. Don't really care for 3D movies. And I shop as little as possible. Sure I owned both the 3DS and the XL version for a while. But, I found it easier to play without the weird 3D effect.

I also tried my friend's Galaxy S whatever version it was with the goggles. Sure. It's interesting seeing shit pop out at you. But like I said. I'm happy with regular ol 1080p. Don't see any need to have 4K Or 3D anything.

Virtual reality is not 3D. Let's set that straight right now.

That's a poor representation of what a true VR experience is all about. If you're thinking about sitting at a cramped movie theatre with those dorky 3D glasses you're quite mistakened my friend. I'm not here to persuade you otherwise. But, I am merely stating the facts.

Nintendo 3DS.

It's okay. Everyone has there 'derp' moments. ;)

When I talk VR I'm referring more to its real life applications.

Let's turn this thread up a notch. Any other inquisitive explorers of VR on here?

Don't be bashful it's sweet ole Ndanger your talking too!

Personally I have found virtual reality to be a truly amazing experience... I love being immersed in other worlds, being surrounded by unfamiliar environments whilst remaining within the safety of my own home...
VR is truely a gateway to explore and learn

And who wants to pay $50 to go to a theme park and go on rides when you can do it without leaving home :-P

Yes!!! very impressed by my first experience as well!!! And granted, was just a cheap unit that you slip your phone into, but was still taken back none the less. I think it will help address the camera issues commonplace in gaming. And your head will be the acccelerometer/ X/Y axis and then a handeld control for action buttons n stuff! Obv its gunna succeed in the market via porn....................So i cant wait to see even more affordable models come out. Big ones! with surround sound phones audio is big for me on the immersion factor!

And cinniman waffles! How do you think its gunna hurt the amusement parks business n things??? haha maybe the price will drop! MY fist app was the roller coaster one!

Some of the roller coaster demos/games are actually pretty decent..
It's not as good as being on a real roller coaster but it beats waiting in line the whole day:eek:

Reincarnation is only a figment of the imagination.

Are YOU implying that is HERE but THERE ?

What is the paradox in the VIRTUAL world ? In contrast to the NON-virtual world ?

Ah, Heatless I was starved of your rhetoric for too long! ;)

Well, it's the paradox we created. The paradox that the mind can only perceive the physical reality here on earth.

This kind of technology is a raw two edge sword. It has the sort of power to lure evildoers and it has the ingenuity to save life's at the same time. The future is always a scary aspect in life. Man has always invented ways to impel and empower. We like to dress in different disguises to fool ourselves that were not fighting the same fight here on earth.

What we've seen in the movies is manifesting itself, unraveling onto our reality as a civilization like a well executed manuscript, that we cannot escape. But, it is up to us what we choose to do with the technology. The spur of technology and the isolation it creates is only a symptom.

In a market, where information is exchanged freely and innovation is faster then those govern by laws- its hard to set rule and precedent on how the technology will be used for good. A clear example is drones and e-cigarettes. But, law is slowly catching up with them by registering drones and clamping down where you can smoke e-cigarettes in public. Technology is clearly the wild wild West of today's customs.

When it comes to technology I'm pretty darn liberal. I have my doubts but I'm empowered by innovation, that's the kind of person I am. One thing is for sure is that we are the future. We are the epitome of everything Sci-Fi. Grab a hooverboard McFly!

MY rhetoric ? Not MINE.

IT ripples a gentle / potent vibration as does the first leaf falling in October on the ponds, smooth, glass surface.

Well, it's the paradox we created. The paradox that the mind can only perceive the physical reality here on earth.
Speaking of Albert Hoffman's problem child...

Technology is very much like LSD in THIS regard. Such a WILDCARD scenario. ☯

I see what You mean by paradox now, ndang. Starting to TAP into YOUR vibration.
