Image makeover time...Awesome. Good for them. It's a big shift away from the fundamentalist nature, which to me signals that they are cracking down on extremists.

i agree with both of you. it is a big step towards democracy, but there are definitely going to be negative stigmas against women for quite a while. i think saudi women still cant get drivers licenses. maybe thats next, since they may be in political positions soon.

I understand the reluctance Jesus, but this is a pretty bold move. This is a pro-western leap, and a major one. We should applaud the effort, not shit on it from the get go.

yeah it seems so random. i wonder what made them make the decision. have women been pushing for it?

Personally, I don't really see it as a "victory" for women, but more of a signal to the West (the US namely), that they are moving away from fostering an environment of social conservatism and fundamentalist extremism. It will also be a good way to keep social unrest within their own borders from manifesting into a full-blown upheaval. Strategy, pure and simple.

Touche there. Maybe they were given the vote but had to follow their husbands wishes? Or got tired of getting beaten by drunk "patrons"?
Yeah man, I think you hit it with the beaten by drunk husbands comment. Anyone who's had to deal with abusive alcoholic parents can relate to what you said.

As a recreational drug, alcohol sucks!

I understand completely. I've done a lot of research into the disease of alcoholism over the past several months. Gone to AA and have most of their literature including "The Big Book." I started looking into it to see if there was some way I could help a very good friend of mine to get out of his addiction to beer. The guy is up to twenty beers a day. He starts the morning off as soon as he get up with two beers.

I found out that there is nothing I can do. I found out that he will have to be as desperate to get off of his addiction as he's desperate for that next beer. For those addicted to alcohol, the temptation to drink is too strong to quit. The only way is to turn the addiction over to a Higher Power.

Most people don't realize that addiction isn't a moral disease ... its a health issue.

ever seen intervention? that might work

oh also there is this stuff that you take and if you drink alcohol in the next day or so, you get VERY sick and puke your ass off. this probably isnt good with someone that drinks 20 beers a day. you can die if you suddenly stop drinking like that. he should be watched at a treatment center for the first few days if he does quit cold turkey

i USED to drink up to 36 a day an 20-24 was the norm. i stopped when required due to legal issues but quickly started back even though the consequences legally could've been dire.

Never had that much temptation with pot.
