Walk in closet problems

I just moved into a second floor apartment (3 floors total) I have a walk in closet measuring 5 and a half long 3 and a half wide and 7 and a half tall. I will be growing six to seven plants in a top drip/dwc hydro set up. I have a H.I.D light set up that can switch between 400 watt and 1000. I would prefer to run my 1000 watt lights but know that i will have heat issues. I am thinking that cutting a whole in the bottom of the closet door for an intake fan and then cutting a hole in the ceiling and venting the air into the small space between the 2nd and 3rd floors. Does anyone know of a better way to control the heat ? or an improvement upon my idea?

You could look at something called the ICE FLOW i think advanced nutrients make it. IT cools your hot air and returns it back into your room as cool air. However this kind of system would then require Co2 Enrichment.

I wouldnt vent into a small space between floors as you could cause mold issues between floors. Then one day you could end up with your neighbours sitting in your grow room from the rotten floors and ceilings.

Wow thank you. it looks like it would do the trick and much cheaper than i expected. why would i then need co2 enrichment??

Because you wouldnt have any air exchange going on in your room. You would just be recirculating Co2 depleted air from your grow room over the ice flow and back into your room.

Not sure how the ice flow would work with passive intakes etc? If it allows passive intakes you could then make a vent in your closet door.

Im just not too sure how it works as i dont use it. I just saw it in a magazine i was reading.

hmm, perhaps I'll just try and place three small squirrel cage fans into cut outs along the bottom of the door for intake and then put a dresser in front of the door and see if that helps the co2 problem.

If you are renting....

Please remove the door and replace it with a cheap home depot door that you can cut holes into. Then when you get ready to move out, replace the original door.

I wouldnt try to grow between 2 neighbors in an apartment but that's just me.

Yeah already went down to home depot and bought a decent door to cut holes into and a deadbolt to put on it. I'm definitely not going to cut into my ceiling and risk anybody hearing my exhaust. Ordered the six inch ICE FLOW to cool my lights. thankfully my closet walls are also the exterior walls to the side of my apartment that isnt near anything so noise shouldn't be an issue. add a carbon scrubber in there somehow and then light proof my door and It should all be pretty stealthy. Any other suggestions you might have as far as keeping my grow stealthy would be much appreciated.

double check how the ice flow works as i think you may need a chiller res or water feed into the area.

from what i can tell i will have to buy a 250 to 300 gph water pump and a 25 gallon reservoir. That will just be a couple of dollars and a trip to the store. entirely worth it if it will allow me to run my 1000 watt lights and get the most out of my plants.

How does the water in the res stay cool without a chiller though? I have yet to look at the Ice Flow from AN but know that the Ice Box from Hydro Innovations has been around for a while and sounds like it may be the same thing. You need a chiller with the Ice Box though. Those weren't too cheap.

Actually I just put in a little research and you DO need a chiller with the Ice Flow. The water passes from the res through a chiller then to the lights, exactly like the Ice Box. Hope I helped instead of making things more difficult.

Dang. well that is a no go since the chiller would have to set outside the grow room and i live in an apartment. tryin for stealth. think ill turn on my 1000 watt inside the closet and see how hot it gets to give me an idea of how much i need to bring the temps down.

welp it started out at sixty four degrees in the closet with the door closed and in ten minutes it went up four degrees and showed that it was still rising. but thats with no way to ventilate air in or out. So I'm thinking cut an intake hole into the bottom of the door run a tube up to my shelf connect to the intake side of an 8 inch inline duct fan run a tube out the other side connect to the hood and then a final tube to a hole in the top of the door to vent out the hot air.

Hmm, cheapest chiller I can find is going to run me about 400 bucks. what do you think of this. theres a light in my closet. remove the light cap the wires and run an extension of ducting from the extra vent in my living room and connect it to the closet and then run my exhaust out of a small hole in the bottom of the closet door?
