Want to grow 1 plant

Hello, I want to grow 1 plant for personal use and as a tester. In the future Id like to maybe have 2 or 3 on the go, but for now I just need 1 to get me started (or 2 or 3 if needed, as I read a lot of stuff saying I will need a few seeds so I can guarentee one of them is female although I might get more than 1)..

One major problem is that I live with my mother and she is not allowed to know about this. So, I want to put it in my shed at the bottom of the garden in a disclosed place ( I already have a good cupboard type thing I can grow in ). This means that It needs to be cheap on the electricity and as little smell as possible. Hopefully by using CFL lights I can reduce electricity prices and just say to my mum " Mum, I want to run a server for my game but I need it to run 24/7, can i run it in my room and pay you xxx on electric every month? this way it willl save me XXX if i payed for a vps" then Ill just say its running off my PC....

So, Now My actual questions..

1) I read a lot about auto-flowering plants saying they are easier, but it seems they are only easier because you need one grow room, As I am growing one plant/batch of plants, should i just ignore autoflowering plants? Do I really care about them at this stage?

2) If not, I want to go for feminized seeds, these look great, but how short can they be? I want to find the shortest one possible, one of the autofolowering ones came up to about 20inches MAX, and that was perfect, what about with feminized?

3) And whatever seed I choose, What wattage on my CFL will I want and how many of them? I need to choose the cheapest possible.

4) And finally, What do I do about heating? Is it true I need to maintain a steady temperature on the plants? Or will the lights do that themselves if the whole setup is encolsed in a cupboard/box or something...

i dont have too much advice for you but just a heads up, people are probably going to say something about you growing in your moms house.

That's why I just want one plant. If I can get the hang on growing 1 or 2 plants, I will tell her... Once I have the evidence that it works, she wont mind, She hates me buying it off the streets and stuff.

Besides the fact that your mom is going to beat your ass if she finds it, just research this site. All your questions are answered in here but keep in mind like one already said, this is a community that is kinda legit. You sound like a lil youngin wantin to grow the plant. I can admire that. Everyone has to stop and just take a second to reflect back when you all had that first vision of the plant and all it's gloriousness and you wanted to grow it. Those thoughts are completely natural in ANYONE'S head. Human nature tends to make oneself go towards the better good in life for the most part, that's why most of us started growing the plant. I hate how society in some parts of the world frown so much on a fucking plant. But yea kid, you made me remninisce about me being younger.... not that I am old or anything, but still... it deserves fuckin recognition and rep.

Get yourself a 150watt or bigger cfl, an emergency blanket from Ebay and go for it! You will need some kind of grow box so it will stay warm enough in their

True 150 watt ... not "150 watt equivalent" ... those are actually 42 watts. Three of those will do nicely ... cn

How do I know the light times of this plant? Is it the same for all plants? Or are all strains unique?

Yeah, thats what I did when I saw them, but I found White Widow and I like the look of it.

8 weeks flowering, 60cm in height, good yield and seems cheap, i can get single seeds here

Has anyone used white widow before and want to tell me how they got on with it?

also I have two questions

1) if it starts flowering at 8 weeks, does that mean I can pick buds once I start to see them? and leave the rest to grow

2) What lighting times would I use on white widow?

I am discovering that White Widow (mine's a Nirvana feminized) is one fussy customer. NOT recommended for a first grow. I would direct you toward an old-line Indica dominant, like NL. My first grow was NL ... easygoing plant and such fun to grow/smoke.

WW and all strains that aren't a landrcce Sativa have interchangeable light requirements ... WW isn't special there.

It doesn't work that way. The eight weeks is the time needed to go from initiating 12/12 until estimated completion. You're in for the full duration ... then one big chop-down and bud grooming party. cn

I started my first grow in a 15x15x48 FedEx box, also called a 'Golf Bag Box'.

I painted the insides of the box flat titanium white, reinforced the top and bottom with 1/4in plywood squares. I opened the seam of the box and put velcro seals to hold it closed with black baffles to block light leaks. I rigged a 4way bulb socket with 2 warm and 2 cool white bulbs (46w ea) on a chain to raise and lower lights. The plant was in a DWC bubble bucket (fm Loews) with one airstone fm one small aquarium air pump. Two small 4in desk fans fit around the base of the bucket to move air. At the top, on the inside back of the box, I drilled seven 1in holes, four across and three below for ventilation. I put carbon filters from an office laser printer on the outside of the holes to keep down the smell. Electrical wires went out the top to a timer/power strip attached to the outside. The power cord went down the back then along the floor to the outlet. If you walked into the room, all you see is a shipping box.

I went with feminized Critical+ seeds, topped the plant to keep it manageable and harvested three large colas for about 2 oz of very good smoke after 12 weeks.

It's 18/6 or 24/0 until you've reached your interim size target ... can't really do it by a calendar.
NL is Northern Lights, an indica-dominant strain that is easy and rewarding to grow. cn

Ah, right, so I could go 18/6 for a week or two and then change to 12/12 and in 8 weeks I could harvest?

18/6 hrs is vegetation stage. Keep it there until the plant is 13 to 15 inches tall. Go to 12/12 when you want to start the flowering stage to begin. Then the clock starts. Eight weeks is short for most strains although some come in around there. 'NL' is Northern Lights, a good beginner plant. Nirvana has AK-48 which is a good easy grow but may go more than 8 weeks. Don't get anxious! Keep the buds on the plant until the tricomes are turning amber. Read up on what to do, check out the forums for more info.

This ak-48 seems to think it can be done in 7/8 weeks, Might order these seeds, look pretty nice! what you think on these? What was it like when you tried growing it?
