Washing buds

I have recently done an outdoor grow and started washing my buds. Mostly done indoor and never had the real need to wash my buds...

My question is how do you guys and gals dry your buds after a wash. The last time I did it I stuck them in my dehydrator at like 115 for a while then put them on a rack. This seemed to work well but not sure how well cause it was a new strain. Wedding cake auto. Turned out fine but just wanted to make sure that I wasn't losing potency. I think I did them at 115 for 12 hours. They was still moisture and after that I air dried them in a closet for maybe 2 days before jarring. Is that an effective method? Any other good ways to do this? Trying to avoid mold.

Do you leave them on the branches and trim them then wash? My typical method was full trim put them on one of those mesh hanging things in my closet... This was prior to my washing experiences. Never did the branch thing always felt like I lost terps and had more potential mold exposure due to water retention in stems/branches.

I live in a dryer climate so I'm always looking to prolong the dry. I chop, dunk and swirl with the three buckets and hang the whole plant if possible then dry trim.

My climate is humid AF. Typically October is a dry month but not so much this year. The reason I have a couple of plants finishing early is cause they were autos. The rest should finish first week of November. Hopefully we don't get too bad of a cold spell before then. I started them indoors and then moved them outdoors second week of September. It is crazy how big they are compared to the same strain I grew indoors under HLG 550. Both my outdoor plants are 4 feet tall. I figure if all goes well and I can keep the bugs caterpillars at Bay I should get close to a pound from each. Indoor I got 5 ounces and was happy with that. Same size pot. The sun is awesome. :)

After I do the bud wash I hang them on a laundry rack in front of a fan, after about an hour they are ready to get hung up on a line in the drying area.
I have good success with this for 2 years so far.

I trim mine down to buds because I throw them in my freeze dryer. So to get the extra moisture away from my buds, I toss them a salad spinner. Amazing the amount of moisture they hang onto, and the spinner does a great job getting most of the excess water out of them.

I wash em right after they’re chopped, I only trim off the largest fan leaves and then hang as much of the plant while as I can (usually I need to break them up so the branches fit in the 5gal buckets). I do a three bucket wash them hang them in front of a fan for 30 mins or so to get rid of most of the excess surface moisture, then straight into the dry room/area. I would avoid wet trimming if possible, but never dry then wash.

Ok. Thanks. Just curious…why avoid wet trimming? I was going to wash, wet trim, hang in dry room. You find it easier to dry trim?

Chop, trim off large fan leaves and anything that looks damaged, submerge/agitate in h2o/h2o2 bath, submerge/agitate in h2o rinse bath, sling around to whip off excess moisture, hang to dry. Just took down this plant a couple days ago.

Wow! Beauties. Ok. Thanks all. I always planned the chop, trim big fans, wash. Just wasn’t sure about wet trim then dry. Of dry. Than dry trim. Youve convinced my to dry trim. Lol. Thanks. I’m guessing the extra moisture from the sugar leaves will help keep humidity up a tad in dry room, also allowing for a slightly slow dry process. As long as the dry room has a good set up…70F and 60RH should be good for avoiding any mould I’m assuming?

That’s pretty much how I roll - that temp/humidity looks good. And yes, the more you keep attached the slower it will dry in the right conditions, you’ll see a lot of guys chopping at the base and hanging whole to dry

Thanks. Much appreciated. I’ll definitely look at how I’d like to trim it up to wash. Prob very similar to pic above.

So some of you sling your plants around to remove water. You don't think you lose trichz? I'm just asking as I really don't know. Years ago I was chopping a plant down piece by piece. The sun was situated in such a way that a cut showed little sparkly things fly around. Yeh, on percentage basis it didn't mean much, but it freaked me out and now I'm gentle.

I’m honestly not sure. I can’t say I’ve personally ever flung them around to get rid of excess water. I’ll wash and hang outside for 45-1hr. Then bring em in to dry room

I imagine the probability of loosing trichs to this method is other than zero...but it makes me feel like a ninja with sweet weed nunchucks!
