Are these ice water hash washing machines any good?

Can they make full melt? Or close?

Washers reduce the amount of work from hand mixing. Full melt is dependent on genetics, grower, and the environment the bubble is made and dried and cured.

Make sure the room is around 65 degrees or lower when making bubble. Make sure to be gentle as can be. That is key to getting pure heads, no capitate stalks, and no plant matter.

Then dry patty for 12 hours at same temps. Then freeze patty in the freezer for 2 hours. Microplane the patty onto parchment right when right you take it out the freezer. Then dry it for 7 to 21 days at the same low temps and low humidity . Then cure at the same temps for a week or 2. By then the bubble will be stable

Heat and humidity cause oxidation and evaporate volatile and soluble terpenes and reduce melt quality.

Make sure to wear nitrile gloves. Skin oil degrades trichomes

So yes...the washers dont agitate so much that contaminents are a problem?

And is it better to use dry trim or fresh frozen?

Add more ice (small round cubes) to slow the washer down to be more gentle and use a work bag in the washer. Make sure to use a whole 8 bag set. 25µ isn't necessary though. You definitely want the 45µ, 73 or 70µ, 90µ, 120µ, 160µ, 190µ, 220µ.

Trim type is preference. Fresh frozen will give you more terpenes and more melty bubble.Soluble (melt) and volatile terps that evaporates when the material dries.

Dry cured material if very good quality will still be melty. Most of the time it comes out looking a brighter white color than fresh frozen. Fresh frozen bubble will make better rosin too. AKA live rosin or frosin.

Also look up portable or mini washers on amazon. Most bubble washers are cheap portable and RV washers rebranded, I got my 10 gallon Panda washer for $80 on amazon. The only reason to get an expensive washer is if you want a 20 gallon washer.

Well you mightve saved me some cash. Was looking at one at a shop here for 250. Seemed pretty big.... was good sturdy quality though...
Glad i didnt buy it and checked here first. Woulda been a 250 dollar pack of papers...hahahahah

We got good use out of the purdy blue and white Chinese made RV lingerie washing machine for about a year before it died. They had just hit the scene and I had to make a step down transformer to run it on 120VAC.

As I recall, we used about a 20 minute run to get about half the yield before greening. Lots of trichome shafts and hairs with the heads, so not full melt, but good.

We also got good results using a strainer bucket that I made by installing 120 micron stainless screen in a 5 gallon bucket and using a paint stirrer or wooden spoon. Just more work and a single pile instead of sorted by micron from the washing machine and bubble bags.

Interesting, as always, to see how differently folks approach making the bub.

I bought a couple of those Chinese washers last year...$60 each. Same thing as Bubbleman's Bubble Now/Bubble Magic/etc....just no sticker that links it with "Pot" and drives up the price.

I got suckered in at first and used the 220/zippered/$80 bag inside. Did OK....but wasn't any better than buying 12 - 5 gallon nylon paint strainer bags for $25 and tying to top/tossing it in.

I then saw Frenchy's video. Now I don't use the inner bags at all. Much easier. IMO.....

I also switched to full mesh bags and stacked them like Frenchy in 3 gal pails. Worked so much better than Bubbleman's bags all stacked on top of each other in one bucket.

I've tried a variety of drying methods. Press....no press. Let the chunk sit.....or chop it like coke and let it dry. Every strain takes on a different consistency/drys differently. That's part of the fun here. Some stays gooey...others crumble. The latest tip I heard here that has helped me a lot is ...no matter how you dry it...to then put in in mason jars with either panty hose or silkscreen as a lid.

I disagree about the 25 bag. Again, though...personal preference. If the strain is a good hashmaker...I've found good, stiicky, melty in everything from the 160 down. If nothing else, I'll make edibles with the bags that don't melt.

fun stuff, for sure!

Wow. I havent seen a triple beam since highschool...lol

I like that you make enough hash to require one...lol

Microplaning creates a larger surface area so every trichome dries at the same rate. Best method of drying. Leaving it in a patty to dry, mold can develop.

Some of this year's (washing machine) fun. After a huge move and a few years of touch/go/testing the waters in my new digs...I finally hit my mark and have enough plant material on hand to make/smoke hash all year long....as well as to try some different approaches to hash making. I'm old school and have always just done what I do....and what seemed in favor.....like pressing was for all of those years. Haven't tried the microplaning approach yet..but will. Fuckin kids and their newfangledness! LOL.

FWIW...here in CO I've never had a problem with mold. Just let that shit dry for a good month in the open air and all is good.

These patty's dried for 3-4 weeks....and were then shaved off with a new scalpel.....dried a few more days....then lightly chopped and put into the jars with silkscreen tops

The last pic is Dubble Mint (Sour Dubble x Thin Mint) 73 micron. No press. I just chopped it/spread it out on a silicone pan....and it flattened down on it's own to about 1/8 inch and dried to an opaque, reddish, pliable consistency. I tried putting it in the jar in wafers but it lumped up like a big hunk of wet deer shit. Yum.

Have 3-4 more strains to test and see what they do...and multiple runs of each strain still in the freezer.....but glad to say...>everything< is yielding seriously well and looking excellent so far.

The first photo looks like a collection of turds (which I wish I had in my posession)! Any tips or technique that you would like to share or highlight, given that you have tried several? Thanks!

Thats sure some oxidized hash you got right there

Oxidation = degradation

Moisture = darker color

Properly dry your hash til its bone dry. Absolutley zero moisture.

Moisture and heat cause oxidation

I wasn't too impressed with your pics either. Looks like yer gonna bake a pizza on some cornmeal. But hey...it's all good if yer happy and I'm happy....

I remember all of that great hash in the 70's...not a bit of it was microplaned. Slabs. Stamped 1 pound slabs....and not a hash snob or a nitrile glove in sight.

You learned something new. People know better these days . Charas is full of skin and plant matter. Most people want clean 6 star full melt terpy hash . Not 3 star half melt.

White beach sand hash is what you get when you process and dry it properly. It stays white when it doesn't oxidize.

It's not about what the "people" want here. This is personal stash. Like I said...if yer happy with that approach...more power to ya. I'm pretty sure that's what I've (disappointingly) gotten the few times I've went to the dispensary looking for "bubble hash". Couldn't figure out why it looked like and smoked like kief until the guy told me that it is processed that way due to regulations on mold. Might as well just sift and avoid water altogether if that's the end result, IMO.

But..um...thanks anyway.

kief is trichome heads , capiatate stalks and pplant matter. equivelant to dry ice hash. Its made with a single screen. The beach sand bubble hash you speak of and dru sift is pure trichome heads only. kief will not melt but beach sand bubble hash ie ice wax will . Dry sift is made with 4 screens and static tech.

What you do is fold parchment and place the beach sand bubble or dry sift in the fold of parchment then press into a slab by heating up a nail dome or rosin stamp with a torch and rubbing it over the parchment or just use a hair straightener at low temps and press for a few seconds and you get something like this

hyrootpharms-1510264028457.jpg

then you dab it

Allowing to oxidize like you prefer will cause terpenes and trichomes to degrade. You're uneducated on the subject and haven't tried high quality bubble.

When you make dry sift. You have to slow dry the material at 50 degrees for a month then cure for 3 months at same temps to preserve and polymerize the terpenes so it still melts. You still lose volatile terpenes from evaporation.

With bubble you can use fresh frozen material right away and get those volatile terps that evaporate. Dry at the same low temps and cure. Once the bubble is cured it is stable and those soluble and volatile terps are locked in and the bubble won't cake out. .

Now frenchy he does the same method. but he uses a knife instead of a microplane. Then he places the bubble in bag then presses it using a bottle filled with boiling hot water for an hour. Then he cures the pressed hash for 3 months minimum. It gets the desired look like you prefer. But he does dry it properly. The same way I do. He doesn't leave it in patties prior to drying. The end result looks like this

This was made by frenchy

Ummm....thanks for the "education". 45 years into this game....you have no idea what I've smoked/seen along the way. We definitely see it differently....but at least you aren't a BHO guy and see the value of cleanly extracted product sans solvents.....however you process it.
