Washing your buds on a tough outdoor year is one of the best things you can do, and you'll agree when you see what comes off in the bathwater!
I'd be lying if I didn't say it makes me super nervous, lol. But really does make a lot of sense the more I research it. Some of these after wash pics are disgusting

I think the 2+ weeks estimate that @JonathanT posted is about right.

That said, I’m stoned on some lower branch stuff I trimmed to clean up the plants two weeks ago right now. That stuff was no where near ready but still packs a nice buzz. If you’re just growing for yourself, early harvest to hedge against loss due to bug damage or molds isn’t harvest Armageddon like some members like to say it is.
Better to wait if you can tho. Saw someone post something like “everyone in the US is waiting for buds to ripen right now and none of them really are ripe yet”. That sounds about right.
:joint::twisted:
Seems there is some science to back this up as well...however, can't fully confirm as I am not paying this dude for his lab result haha

Everyone is nervous the first time they do it-they usually think that A. they will wash off the trichs, or B. they will encourage bud rot. Well, no worries on either front, the trichs are firmly in place-notice with bubble hash we need to freeze them then agitate the hell out of them to get them off, and since you will be using potassium bicarbonate in a bath, you'll actually be discouraging bud rot during the drying period. Good luck!

i've never used potassium bicarbonate, i've always used a weak solution of h2o2, thinning 32% down to about 6-8%, always seemed to do the job

Thank you for this reply, the bubble bag comparison was perfect! Hell, I've put a wooden spoon on a blender due to those sticky trichs not wanting to drop off, so a simple dunk surely isn't going to do much damage. Appreciate you taking the time to talk this thru with me

Allow me to calm your nerves.

THC is NOT water soluble. Meaning it does not dissolve in water. You weed will be fine if you wash it.

If you don't every single POP you hear and see when you are smoking will be another bug exploding reminding you that you should have washed your weed.

Search Doc Buds bud wash procedure for a good detailed set of instructions. It's where I first learned but you can tailor it to your needs based on how you like to do it. Some people use three buckets some two, hell I've seen four. Just kill any bacteria, rinse the nasties off and then dry the excess water off...done. It is scary the first time but once you see the nasty shit in the water you were going to put in your lungs you will never want to smoke unwashed buds again. It's way easier than you think it's going to be.

And it was at that moment, right after she threw up in her mouth a little, that she overcame her fear and bought some 5 Gallon buckets, while thinking back to all those times she said "it's just an immature seed"

This is the result of washing 1 small outdoor plant....

Brown water was the warm h202 wash. Clear bucket is the cold rise

Regarding those drooping leaves…

I’m my opinion that pot is WAY too small for the plant it’s supporting (as you suspected). I suspect the drooping is due to a cramped rootball that’s having a hard time keeping up with the water demands of all that foliage, regardless of how often you water.

It’s too late to transplant this one, but next time I’d go a lot bigger. As long as you’re careful with your watering frequency, you really can’t go too big.

I’m convinced on the wash. Someone posted a fantastic article in another thread the other day. Went out and bought supples today. All 6 of my plants will go through this. This is a copy paste of the article regarding supplies and instructions. I’ll repost the actual article as it’s a great read. But for those that want the solution and steps only here it is. I’ll be doing this.

Here is the recipe we use:
4 buckets total. (Recipe is for 5 gallon buckets but we use 20 gallon buckets for large stems)
Bucket 1: Filtered lukewarm water with 32 to 64 oz 3% peroxide.
Bucket 2: Filtered lukewarm water with 1/4 cup baking soda, 1/4 cup lemon juice
Bucket 3: Hot filtered water only. (Tap hot – not boiling)
Bucket 4: Cold (not icy) filtered water only.
Fully submerge in bucket 1 with the peroxide for 30 seconds. Submerge for a full minute if you had powdery mildew or bud rot at any time during the grow. Let water drip from buds, and then:
Fully submerge in buckets 2 through 4 for 30 seconds each . . . lightly stirring.

Get some Spinosad and get to work. Lol
Alright Wizzlebiz and RIU frens... It's been wet and 92+ humidity here for 4 days straight and we have rain in the forecast for 2 out of the next 4 days. I just pulled a few more grams due to rot.

I really don't want to harvest her too early. What would you guys do??

She is so top heavy and disproportioned, I have to use huge rocks to hold her down. Next year, I am absolutely going to go with bigger pots. This was my first grow and I wanted to start small, but apparently she had other thoughts in mind, lol

Somebody? Anybody???
By appearances, it's real close to ready. If you're already seeing signs of rot and there's high humidity and rain in the forecast, I would chop it. I'm dealing with similar issues in my garden. I've got one cultivar that hasn't finished yet, storms last night and heavy precip forecast tomorrow and the day after. Mine could stand to get another 2 weeks, but I don't think I'll make it all the way.

If I were closer to ready, like what I see in your pics, I would go ahead and hang it up.

Good luck! Peace :peace:

Thank you!! I thought Frost was going to be my worst enemy, I really hadn't considered rain and humidity would come steal the show.

I have one that's exactly the same as yours, about two weeks out..

I hope your girls get to finish in time. These next two weeks are going to be white knuckle ride for sure. I'm so worried, I'm even dreaming about them (face palm)

Good luck to you as well, my fingers are double crossed for you

:peace:
