Watch out for frost?

I live in the north east, just curious. When someone is referring to frost...I know it sounds stupid, but what do they mean exactly? Will frost occur anytime it dips below freezing? So if come late September, if one night, the temperature dips to below freezing for even a short while, I should be harvesting right?

north east canada? lol better finish up your crop soon... i live in toronto and we get insane weather (this summer was ridiculous) and september frost can be a real issue. for the most part growing through september, october and sometimes even november is okay, but be aware that some plants can be badly shocked by early frost. the risk of frost doesn't mean you should prematurely harvest, but if planting late in the season, try and plant cold resistant strains specific to your climate. it can make a big difference in a plants health.

the frost is when it gets below freeing and the and the morning dew freezes giving the grass and all your plants a "frosty" appeal from what ive been told your supposed to harvest if this happens but ive nvr encountered it so idk i would go with ylem's answer if it frosts dnt harvest rite away, wait and see how your plants respond if they dnt respond well and look like they wont make it then harvest but its very possible that they will be shocked for a little while and then continue growth i also live in the northeast(ny) and have to keep an eye out for it

If the plant is healthy, it could survive frosts. It's better to inspect your plants than harvest premature plants. Unless you have snow coming. Snow could be bad for bud potency.

What strains are cold resistant?

You won't see frost in NY til early/mid Oct. I healthy plant can handle a few frosts, if anything you'll get some purpeling and extra trichs from what I have seen...

Yeup, I've read that when going through a cold snap/light frost buds will kick up extra resin. Resin doesnt freeze nearly as easily as does the water in the plant cells therefore, I believe, extra is produced as a barrier against the plant itself freezing, its a natural defense mechanism.

The odd light frost late autumn is normal. Be carefull of frosts night after night ,same as rain continuously(at the end of flowering) will ruin the crop.

atually i live in ny and it varies, i live about 45 min from lake erie so im not quite in northeast NY. ne way, one time here there was a frost in early sept. granted it is unusual but it does happen, also i remember a time when an area roughly and hour away from me got and early frost but where i was at it hadnt, so really it also depends not only on location but also elevation whether or not u live in a valley ect. regardless u should keep an eye out and pay attention to the weather come september when the nights start getting colder. just because the frost will generally come in oct. doesnt necessarily mean it will

Im in Mass. last yr I went up to Halloween without issue, probably could have gone another 2 weeks if needed.I am on top of a hill surrounded by woods so I'm pretty well insulated. My garden(veggies) went almost 3 weeks longer than a friends on the other end of town. I was covering my girls if it looked like it was going below 34F, but they were small so it wasn't too hard.Get a farmers almanac, it will give you an idea of frost dates/freeze dates as well as daylight hrs, best planting times, etc... it's a wealth of info.

any one have bud rot issues last year in september? what can i do to help protect the bigger ones without covering them? Some 9 footers would be VERY obvious looking with a tarp on them....any ideas? i lost a couple plants to rotting last year, hopefully not this year..
