Water cup method

I am germinating 8 seeds doing the water cup method, I have just seen a video where the guy germinates using the water cup method but then after 2 days (48 hours) he takes them and transfers them to a paper towel... Is that necessary or can I just germinate them in the cup and then from there put them straight in soil?

just do straight soil from the start. or you could let them soak 12 to 24 hours then to soil to speed it up a little.

either way man, i tend to switch from cup to paper towel after the seeds sink, i feel it makes them sprout faster, but remember dont use a fabric towel! Good luck!

Agree with grorite and just go straight to soil after a 12-24 hour soak. Forget the paper towel method. Just complicating things.

the only reason i germinate in a cup or towel is to make sure the seed is alive, if you know, just use DTD method. (direct to dirt)

sinking isnt an idicator of a good seed. I have had floating seeds grow as well as seeds that sank in 12 hours.

The reason that you soak them in water is to introduce water, which starts the germination process. It isnt necessary, you can introduce water via soil as well, or paper towel etc...

Soaking them in water, then wrapping them in a moist paper towel, then planting them in properly moistened soil is redundant but as long as you dont let the seed open and stay out of its final home for too long, you can do whatever youd like.

I have never done the sandpaper thing. My seeds sprout in a few days. Never felt the need to. If you are in that much of a hurry that youd sand your seeds if it might knock a day off that time, its going to be a looooong grow.

If that were that case you could go straight to moist paper towel, and sprout.
Your seeds were floating because you didn't scuff them (sand paper). They have a seed coat around the shell.
Sometimes the surface tension of the water will not allow the seed to soak up water. taking a tooth pick and pushing the seeds under the water will over come this.
A contact case is great for soaking seeds.

I can see someone new using the soaking, and paper towel method, but your right sowing to soil is the way to go. Someone new or inexperienced might over water or plant to deep. What ever works best for the person doing it.
