Water Curing...Sounds Like My Thing Tell Me If I'm Wrong, But I Think I Wanna Try

ok so im doing a small micro grow which should yeild from 3-6 oz (according to regular dry/cure expectations). The whole point of my grow is to be self sufficient for me and a buddy or two and have good smoke. Like you all I love the taste of weed and it is a bummer this seems to go away with water curing. However, My problem is that im in a rented house and drying for a week or so scares me, not to mention a couples oz of cured bud is gonna be stanky plain and simple. My landlord does like to poke his head in now and again and im worried about that as well as other people noticing( I tell nobody what im doing). The appeal of the water cure seems to be no smell while curing and I can dehydrate at the end making the whole process relatively smelless. I do NOT want to sell so the effects are what matter to me not the bag appeal ect. Also SAFETY (nobody being the wiser) is my number one concern and water has a lot of pros on this side. My fear is im gonna lose a ton of weight tho. From experience water Curers: How much will my yield be decreased by water curing as long as its done gently with care?

I know this will not be as appealing to most, but i dont have the best space so im making due here if your gonna tell me it tastes bad or doesn't smell enough ect, please refrain I just want some relatively unbiased experience ( negative experience is welcome to be stated just dont go telling me im an idiot to be doing this). I know air curing is better in most peeps opinion im just trying to do what best for MY specific purpose in MY situation. Being a noob i dont know if this is it. Let me know. Thanks.

You, like everyone else on this planet, make a lot of assumptions. Things you 'know' and 'understand'.

Main point is:

You do not lose any THC weight when water curing.

You do lose 20-25% of weight from the bud, but none of this is cannabinoids(since they are not water soluble.).

I don't think I'll comment on much more here, your absolutism is a bit of a turn off.

One other thing: don't rent from fascists. The place you are occupying right now is for ALL intents and purposes YOURS, not the landlords. But if you're into that kinda thing, good luck.

if i came off like an ass sorry that was absolutely not the tone I was going for, I just wanted to avoid the endless posts of people saying water curing is dumb blah blah blah. Your info is what I already THOUGHT, I just wanted some confirmation, which you provided. Your info is great , as well as your directness, and I appreciate both. But the fact is I have 4 roommates and I cant say no to a very nice and very cheap house just on the basis of growing weed, not to mention its not like I knew my landlord when I moved in, I have just gotten to know him a little. The reason it scares me is all the good places for drying are RIGHT by public areas and the smell would def be noticed. Also I just dont want other people knowing what im doing ya know? Im very humble in all this so again I apologize if I sounded out of line.

Thanks for taking my flaming so well.

Nothing is absolute, and I'm such a loser I think everyone should talk and act with that in mind.

Perhaps you could dry off-site, the curing process should be handled in mason jars, or Tupperware, or anything that you can seal up, meaning the smell is really not an issue.

ya i though about that too but the problem is I live in a place where there are no trees or anything to hide my drying in. Also where I live i get big temp fluctuations and it will be well under 0 F here in the winter consistently for a couple months. so since i dont have a good alternate location I dont think that will work out for me. and I think your right curing is not an issue really just the drying. But im not sure how to handle that part.

Flood your plants before harvest, kick-start fermentation(the drying process). Cuts post-chop dry time to around 4 days. There's a good 'Truth about Flushing' thread on these forums with tons of helpful links for the whole harvesting/drying and curing process.

Could you build a chimney? Fill it with racks with screen bottoms, leave a tiny opening at the bottom, and leave the top off completely. Then perhaps focusing on cleaning the tainted-air coming out of the top might be manageable. Set a $40 carbon-air-scrubber right above the top. This system will also cut drying time down, without using fans or heaters.

But anyways, it seems that if you can grow it and deal with the stench, you should be able to manage drying it with no problem.

well i do have 4in fan and filter in my box but i just dont wanna hold up growing the next batch for a week, and since low key is the goal water doesnt seem that bad. That also makes for a heck of a cure time. Also I will be vaping so im gonna taste what is there much more than usual smoking. I couldnt build a chimney the landlord isnt so nosy as ya might think but the place i would have to put it he would be an idiot to not spot it. I like the ideas so dont think im trying to counter them, im just sayin what im thinking is all. thanks for all the input.

my advice is don't water cure. You will be very disappointed with the results unless you really enjoy dried up brown Mexi weed. The buds become very dark brown, looks like shit, all appealing taste and aroma are gone and when it burns you might as well be smoking oak twigs because that is the only flavor. You'd be better off microwave drying.

It only takes like 7 days so if you want proof, cut a bud a week early and give it a shot. However, you said your goal is to have good smoke for you and your buddy and water curing is not going to give you that. :blsmoke:

i know thats what i expected people to say but unless you know a way to make drying weed not smell at all i CANT dry cure man, i would love to but its way to risky. not sure what im gonna do yet. Im not in cally here people that dont smoke weed are a bunch of ignorant conservative fucks that cant mind there own business. They will turn me in if they know. IF they dont do it directly, you know how people talk, it will find the wrong ears. I just cant risk anyone knowing. Potency and effect matter most not the min or two im actually smokin, which is the only reason im open to the idea because those are the only things not adversely affected by water cure. Im not saying your wrong, in fact i totally agree, but its lookin like i either gotta make it not smell or i gotta go water. lol im between a rock and a hard place as far as good weed goes, and I dont wanna get smashed my friend.

Then again maybe i should just take the time to keep the grow box as a drying unit for that time period and maybe thats my best option and just water cure enough bud to get me to a month or so air cure. definitely a thought and probably the best way to go. That being said what is the best way to store lke 5oz with little to no smell after curing. water cured but that wouldnt be a problem which is the best and worst part but if i can make air cure work i will. But how can i store it afterwards?

I have done it. I dont always do it. But I think it is worth doing every now and then. (I LOVE the smell of nice dried bud!!)

It's the exact same science as making hash, or butter. THC is not water soluble, it is oil soluble. Thats why you make weed butter and not weed water or juice.

I put large loosely trimmed pieces into a mason / jam jar, fill with water and cover, place in a dark closet, drain and refill every 2-3 days. the water will be bong water colored and smell like shit. repeat the cycle until the water is stays clear, normally about a week and a half. air dry your bud for about 24 hours.

Because the water took all the chloroform? out of the bud you can expect brownish, light, mostly scentless weed.

Pro - scentless, not smoking the shit that wont even get you high, scentless smoke, nice for public smoking, perhaps a slightly smoother smoke (but I would not say the best Ive ever smoked)

Con - ugly weed, light weed (useless when trying to sell it - the real reason I think it's not popular) and for me most of all .... no beautiful sweet sweet smell of the good stuff!!!

I hope this helps, i'd say give it a try if your game for something a little different and aiming for less scent.

It worked for me - I got high. (prob what you really wanted to know :blsmoke:)

hope you can make sense of my high ramble - puff puff

You know, we tried the water cure and were not impressed, but I want to try it *one more time*. The weed was REALLY harsh compared to the air-dried stuff taken off the same plant. Can it be done with decent results? I think so. Something weird happened with our weed: there was damn near no "garbage" in the water when we soaked it.

Perhaps you have a friend who would "host" your weed-drying? Cut him in for a quarter or something. But if stealth is your goal that's not an option either.

Best of luck dude.

ya cheddar that wouldnt work the only friend who knows and trust that much is on probation. But im gonna grow 2 small Northern Lights and a Larger/older blue mystic so i think i will at least do one NL water and one air. Then see if the water cures near tastelessness really bothers me or not, and go from there. Muke thanks for sharing your experience im glad its not all horror stories i think il give it a shot and see what i think.

no worries, never hurts to share our thoughts!

One, perhaps small hiccup in your plan.... flowering plants will still have a strong smell too!

Are you worried about the drying smell or the smoking smell? because your growing smell will be significant - esp with a proven strain like NL (which is a great smoke BTW and the strain I have water cured in the past)

i gotta filter in my grow room so im worried about storage and smoke smell as well as curing i just really didnt wanna dry in the box so i could keep em rolling but i really didnt know if water cured would bother me, guess il find out!!!

hey reggae234 i can't comment on water curing but after a few harvests my main concern is always the chopping (harvesting) time mate, it absolutely stinks and it takes time aswell. i'm only stating the obvious as my first grow i had all the other variables figured out and over looked this part of the op and it nearly got me busted the smell travelled through the walls into my neighbours houses either side and resulted in a phone call from the landlord. i only mention this as it's the step before drying and can be over looked like i did mate lol

just something to think about and plan for best of luck either way mate

Muke and W Dragon are thoroughly correct. Perhaps you could dry/ cure it in your grow room? I mean you already have the ventilation and it's lightproofed.

k sounds like a plan... so dragon i have a micro grow box with a phat filter which im told will completely remove the smell of flowering/drying plants. Now im glad u brought up harvest smell, my closet is tiny but do you think i would be ok if i just got a light and i shut myself in my closet where my grow box is with the filtration on. My grow box is 1.5"x3"x3.5" with a 170cfm fan. The closet is about 6x6x2.5. I could then just pull out the pots set them on top of the box get a bowl for trimmings and buds and go to town, then put them in the box to dry without ever opening the closet. I need to avoid my neighbors knowing that would NOT be good, i really i hadnt thought of that. Let me know what you think please. Thanks
