Water Filter?????????????????

Ok so i was going to get a water filter style pump for my water res. Im not growing hydroponiclly or other wise i wouldnt need this!! The thing is i have a water heater in my res to keep the water warmer as its in a very cold spot and i have air stones for oxyagen in the water. The problem is that the water isnt flowing or circulating enough and can go stagnet!! I wanted to use this as it moves the water but will the filter filter out my nutes and stuff out of the water??? Or is this a gay idea!!! Thanks

...... just get a reverse osmosis system... btw, warm water causes root rot.

That says it removes impurities, etc. from water, so of course it's gonna remove your nutes.

If you don't like the water movement you're getting from your airstones, just add some more stones and pumps.

Problem solved.

If that's not an option, you could buy a waterfall aquarium filter and not put the carbon in it, thereby creating a waterfall which will get your water moving plenty fast.

Also, how high is your heater set?

Sounds like you've got a pretty easy fix on your hands, I wouldn't go buying much if anything.

I agree with Bob Smith, and to True Stoner I think you're on the right track. Aquarium filters are designed around the idea to break down organic material, largely due to food residues, and fish-poop.
In your grow, that's not an issue, so unless you put in a carbon filter in your water-reservoir, your nutes will pretty much flow right through a filter, unaffected, and such I think it may work, for what you want - circulation.
As an added bonus, it'll filter out little shit that could get stuck in the rest of your system, I'd say put it in, just keep out anything with active carbon in it.

Thanks guys for the input, problem solved. My girl said...why not just use the old pond pump that we dont eveer use any more. So i pulled it out of the basement and cleaned it really good and now its in my res moving the water just as i wanted it and also my water heater is set to 72F!! Its 65F in the cold room!!

Take out the heater and let the water be at room temp.

This will discourage the growth of nasties in it and (surprisingly enough) happens to the "perfect" temp for water to be warm enough to be usable by roots and also hold the most dissolved oxygen.

Water with just chemical nutrients does not have nasties growing in it. Warm water (within reason ie less than 90 degrees) does not cause root rot. Soaked roots sitting in nearly oxygen free water does causes root rot. Ie tilt your earo tubes so they drain well and completely and do not suspend roots in warm water reservoirs. If yoyr using a resrvoir where roots are in water then keep the water below around 78 to 80 degrees. To remove orgainics just go to ebay and get some small micron bags such as 20 micron. Use the bags at all water lines etc draining into the reservoir. If you want more circulation within the reservoir just get a aquariunm power head. They are just small piumps used for circulation only. They typically have not enough power to pump water to any height or through filters with much resistance. They are pretty cheap though and use very little wattage.
