how much water would you use to water your plants that are in 5 gallon pots? i've been watering mine half a gallon to 3/4's a gallon of water each watering.
I agree 100%. + Rep to you. I use 3 gal pots and I end up using about 2.5 gallons of water on all 8. I also water very slowly. It takes me about an hour to totally water my 8 plants by using the method you described. However, by doing it this way, it allows the water to s-l-o-w-l-y sink in.Water until it starts to leak out the bottom into the tray, I normally stop watering when this happens and I get about 1/2 or 1/4 in of water in the tray, this is water is removed quickly by the plants.
Its important to water your plants in stages. Though I normally put a about a gallon per pot per water, I start by adding 1 gallon to all six eyeballing the amount. I wait a few min, water again, wait a few water again.
The reason I do this is because soil tends to develop dry pockets that repel water, if you water all at once the water rushes by these dry pockets and runs down into your tray, this might give you a false positive as far as watering enough. Something to be aware of.
Also, aerate your soil, I poke holes with my moisture meter, helps water drain evenly into the soil and lets more oxygen reach the roots.
Thanks speedhabit, very helpful information, greatly appreciatedWater until it starts to leak out the bottom into the tray, I normally stop watering when this happens and I get about 1/2 or 1/4 in of water in the tray, this is water is removed quickly by the plants.

twice a week, isn't that too much? those are deep buckets, the roots at the bottom would still be moist, just wondering because I had problems with root rot before from not letting them dry out before watering again, what kind of soil or pot are you using?I water about twice a week in 5 gal. Checking weight is the best way to see. Dry pots u can easily tell if they need water by picking em up.I give mine about 1.5 to 2 gal each time. I like to let the pots dry out a bit each time
Ok, that's the same kind of bucket I use, thanks, bokedokiHome depot 5 gallon buckets with holes drilled. I water every 3 to 4 days. Using sunshine mix mixed with a couple other things
