Watering in ground plants

for plants that are in-ground how often can you water them? Its been really hot here the last few weeks close to 100 degrees. A friend of mine waters his plants every evening and gives them a lot of water and they seem to be doing very well. Well what im concerned of is if a plant in-ground can be watered once a day without being over watered.

Lately I've been lagging on watering my plants. It's been 3-5 days since the last time I've watered. They haven't shown signs of distress. I guess it depends on how established your plants are...

I'm in the Columbia Gorge..east of Portland..It hasn't been Nor Cal hot...but the past two weeks it's been upper 80's low 90's. I water every third day for my big DIY smart pots and the girls in the ground..You water too often and you run the risk of root rot. You want your soil to dry out a little.
It also depends on how your soil drains. I haven't ever needed to water every day.

I think it all depends on climate and how you amend the soil. Or if you're just using native soil. I've had a rainy summer here so my in ground girls are doing fine and dandy.
If it's been a week and the weather says it's going to stay that way I'll go water. But I haven't honestly had to mess with it this year or the year prior.

The plant will tell you when you need to water but if its in the ground and its really hot you need to do it everyday. Try to avoid watering at night because it creates a great environment for slugs and they come out at night. I have plants in the ground and in smart pots and its smoking hot here every day and I water every day. You also need to take into consideration how the water drains in your soil but for most part water away once a day and you will be fine. Once you plant starts to bud it will take on less water as the roots have stopped growing and searching for water. Hope this helps

depends on the ground, how aerated the soil may be or how much clay, sand u have there,,,, ,,, depends on your plants.. can always take ur finger and dig down a lil ways,, if its moist and kinda damp then ur ok...
