Watering plants with fish tank water

Hi all, this is my first post, longtime lurker.

I've seen this mentioned on numerous gardening message boards that it can highly beneficial to use water from a fish tank to water the plants as its fully of fertilizer from the fish waste and what not.

Just wondering if any of you have heard of this and can offer some feedback if this in fact a good idea or a really stupid one!

never tried it but if the fishtank water has been maintained it would definitely be beneficial! all the fish waste and wut not is natural and will act as nutrients to your plants. plus since the water came from a fishtank i assume its properly pH'ed

I dont know why people bring this up... I would NEVER try this, fish give off a certain chemical (idk if its good or bad) but I would not take a chance, whats wrong with watering it with regular water?

well normal water is fine distilled water is prefered but tap water is fine as long as u fill a bucket or watering can or anything else like and leave it to stand 4 about 24 hours just to get all the chlorine out of it

Fish give off a certain chemical? WTF are you talking about. Fish ain't got no chemicals. fish only give off fish poop, silly.

My question is what is the PH of this fish tank water?

yea if the water is pH'ed between 6.2 - 6.6 then your good to go!

Lol they give off chemicals? They give off amonia which is converted to nitrites then to nitrates which are nutrients for the plants. So yes it works great free nutes

I use chemical fertilizer, as do most people.

ppl are crazy. yes u can use the fish water and it will work great. u can get some dirty ass water in a puddle and use it and not have to ph it. i get massive, clean, fresh buds. with just using all types of nutes that i like. fish water has been one of them and it does a damn good job for veg.

all u have to do is understand the stages of the plant and how it grows. cannabis is a very very very aggressive plant that is hard to hurt unless ur an idiot. just pay most attention when they are in flower. mollasses, flower nutes, bloom boosters. thats pretty much all i use for flower, those or anything close to it. i love experimenting with shit like that too. ive even taken the ashtray from pot, mixed it with water and fed a plant with it. the buds enjoyed it as well.

just dont give too much nutes, but thats immpossible with tank water unless u add more nutes to it. its very beneficial. and that certain chemical is fish oil which is great for all forms of life.

also if u have a fish tank u can have plants and nvr have to feed them because the fish waste takes care of it. BAM!

In a fish tak the fish produce waste, which along with rotting vegation produce amonia.

In a properly cycled tank, meaning that all the bacteria needed for a healthy aquarium have grown, the ammonia gets broken down into nitrites by bacteria from the genus
Nitrosomonas these nitrites are then further broken down in nitrates by bacteria from the genus Nitrospira, so water from an establishes aquarium will be high in nitrates. I suppose the nitrates would be good for a a plant in its vegetative stage, but Id prefer something that comes in a bottle and is made for the job.

I use alaska fish fert and I'm betting it's made from what ever is left after processing
You can use whole dead fish as fert.

So I just watered my northern lights with my fish tank water which is ph balanced. It also contains liquid nutrients that I put in for the aquatic plants. They are in 5 weeks flower and I fed em at night woke up in the morning and they Loved IT! Don't listen to people that say it shouldn't be done. It's natural and the plants love it. I added a light dose of nutrients to it also.

was this really worth bumping a 12 year old thread for?

Well it could be the start of an aquaponics hijack. I would love to have a full cycle aquaponics fish tank that spills over into my pot growing area.

Considering I still got a reply from it why not. Didnt look at the dates

Will have to remember this and keep my live wells full when I come home from fishing and empty into containers.

I don't think the live well water is gonna be the same as fish tank water. And you only want to use healthy fish tank water.

We take ours to our garden plants. Plants love it. Fully of microbes and nutrients. It's like free Fish Sh!t.
