I can only empathise, Can you fit a Glass house in back yard ? Dwarf fruit trees are golden ;)
I luv chooks !! Its best when you know how they grew up, corn fed Rhode Islands reds, and american game X Cornish hen are the best eating bird especially in roast and great layers IMHO. I have only Just got into chooks... and look to rear pigs asap too.

my grandfather had a vine in his greenhouse for years, takes years for them to put out fruit that's not bitter.

cheers for the headsup on the chilli's man ;)

I have a few vines here but they are as useful as lips on a chicken, and as you said BITTER. I have tryed to grow a few varities from OLD VINE cuttings, but I guess im that unlucky that if it were raining virgins I would be struck in the head by a poof. I just cant get good genetics.
Passion fruit how ever - got some rippers in this year. Panamar Gold ..hmmmmmmm

yeah i cant imagine the disspointment of waiting years for it to mature only to find its fruit bitter. surely theres a use for them some sort of hard liquer like grappa
