Weed & Memory loss

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to know if I was the only one having this problem.

I enjoy weed, it's a great plant, great feeling and all. But I always encounter the same problem with MJ - she fucks my memory. Even after smoking small amounts of weed, I can't learn, can't memorise anything, forget what I want to say in a conversation, what I wanted to do, etc. Even my typing skills were hindered for a while. The effect wears off after a few weeks, but I stopped anyway and haven't touched the stuff in over 2 months because of school and shit (even though I'm a happy farmer :D) I found that alcohol did the same to me a few weeks ago, but the effect was no where near as bad as weed.

Now I'm guessing this problem has something to do with the effect of THC on my brain receptors? Maybe nutritions? I googled the subject and it turns out some people have this too but no one seems to know why, and none of my friends have it.

Does anyone on RIU experience this as well?

Peace,

-Rich

When I was in school, my friends and I would always study while smoking... knock off a couple of hours for a test, smoke and take a break for 30 mins or so, then go back to studying and repeat... didn't affect me like you were saying, alcohol does though. I'm worthless when I drink and the day after.

I'm the same way. I can smoke a lot and function normally but when I drink, its a totally different story.. Guess that's another reason why I don't drink much anymore.
But I can do pretty much anything high the same or even better as when I'm sober. It doesn't affect my memory loss too much except for the occasional brain fart when having a stoner conversation. lol you know, the whole "yadda yadda yadda... um.. Damn. What was I gonna say?" :-|

Weed kind of does that to my memory too. I can't tell you how many pipes I have lost after only one use.

Underlined: I think some things you grow accustomed to, like relearning how to learn when high and such.. personally doing something new (that you need to use in the future) under the influence of anything is a little silly simply because of what is called State Dependent learning. Essentially let's say someone learns how to drive when the are drunk/high/etc. they will only (until they learn sober) know how to do it fucked up.

Personally, if you need to study or learn somethin.. jus don't smoke until you're done (it will be a reward to doing everything else that was scheduled).

Anyways, hope this helps somehow..

if you zone out on shit then yea.. if you focus you will remember what your reading or learning.. it has to do with your state of mind I think. Say your pissed off, when you wanna smoke you wanna get high as shit right? That's when you'll zone out on shit. If your just going for a casual high then you can focus.

I haven't got a problem with doing normal functions when high and drunk. Shit I've had political discussions when fucked up lol. It's just that afterwards, when I'm not high, I forget simple shit. I can't learn anything and I feel like such a fucking penis. That's why I'm leaving MJ til summer, when I can afford to get fucked up. Besides, my girls ain't done yet
