Weird issue - Tiger striped leaves? Help needed!

Hi all. Got an odd one here. I've got 6 Ugorg #1's in 10L canna coco/perlite hempy buckets. Nutrients are canna vega. They were vegged for about 2 months and have been in flower for a week. They've been getting the full strength feed of veg nutes from the canna chart - 2ml/L.

Light is a 450w QB style LED. Temps have been 20-26c, RH has been around 55-60%. I have pretty hard water (8ph, 200 ppm Cac03), so I've been using the hard water version of the canna nutes. Also they were in 1L mini hempys under T5's for the first 6 weeks or so, and they were transplanted into these larger ones and moved into the LED tent about 3 weeks ago.

I noticed these issues about a week ago on three of the plants. The two largest plants are not affected, they are also a darker green. It is an odd issue, like dark brown/purple stripes in between the veins, with the leaf eventually crisping up and dying.

I defoliated quite hard pre-flower, before this occurred, I'd be surprised if that's what caused it though. The feed before this happened I did add too much PH down, and had to add PH up to compensate, quite a bit of it, so I had assumed that's what had caused this, but they've had a flush and a couple of feeds since then and I'm still seeing the issue popping up on these three plants.

Looks like a PH issue, I know, but I've checked the PH of the runoff, flushed and refed with freshly PH'd water/nutes, but it's still popping up. I've also checked my PH pen calibration, it seems to be fine.

I am letting the pots dry out a fair bit between watering's. The plants aren't full on wilting, but they're very light when I water. I doubt that is anything to do with it, but I do wonder if this is a reaction to the 'res' being empty for a day or so before refeeding. It doesn't make sense why the larger plants aren't affected though.

Any help is hugely appreciated.

As you said it sounds for pH. One thing is that vega is for “soil” but it might be probably used also in coco I have never tried that thou. Another thing: you are definitely NOT correcting low pH caused by adding too much pH down by adding pH up!!! If you have fucked up adjusting pH than you have to dispatch whole batch and start a new one. Good luck!

edit: and I forgot to say: you never let the coco dry even a litlle. Never ever as well as never flush with just water.

Thanks, yeah I won't be doing that again! You say never flush with water? I'm assuming you mean it needs some calmag too? I assume flushing with RO water+calmag then following with a weak feed is fine? Or it ALWAYS needs nutrients? I'm pretty sure vega is for hydro, no?

You might be right about that vega I have probably confused with tera vega… if you need to flush just use nutrient solution untill you kill the runoff down

So you have RO water with Hydroponics fertilizers and you still need to add pH down? Thats weird

No, not RO water. They're canna vega hard water nutes, I've been using them with my tap water, which is hard and high PH. I saw them recommended for hempy buckets.

Sorry I made an error, the actual nutes are just called 'Canna Hydro' and 'Vega' is the veg version, and 'Flores' is the flower version (which I'm just about to switch over to).

Traditionally it's perlite/vermiculite, but I'm using perlite/coco, which I've seen great results from in other ppl's grows.

If you google "canna-hydro-vega-hw-a-b" you'll see them.

Thanks.
I see it…
What ratio coco/perlite? I am not so familiar to hempy but can imagine it has similar or same treatment. So you have tap pH 8,0 and EC 0,4, than you have base nutes, are you messing with calmag all together?

Roughly 60/40 coco/perlite, with the res (bottom 2 inches of the 10l bucket) being 100% perlite. It's canna coco professional, so pre-buffered. I rinsed the perlite too before using. I haven't been bothering with calmag considering the high calcium content in my water. If I'd spotted any obvious cal or mag def then I'd have thrown some in, but I haven't. Do you think this looks like a cal def? When I've had it before it's always been on lower leaves (this is more middle and upper leaves), and it's always been like rusty spots that spread unevenly. I've never seen a cal def with this perfectly even browning between the veins.

I've just hooked up my crappy little RO filter to the outside tap and my plan is to filter enough to do a full flush of all the affected plants (10l per plant), just in case there is some kind of salt build up from my hard water that's affecting nutrient uptake. I'll add calmag to the RO water at the recommended dose, and flower nutes at 1/4 strength, and triple check the PH!

I did just re-calibrate my PH pen again just to be sure, and checked my previous nutrient mix before and after calibration, before it was showing 6.1, and after it was 5.7. So perhaps my pen was off after all, and I've been giving them overly acidic feed for the last few feedings. It's weird that two of the plants are completely unaffected though.

It's such an odd looking issue, never seen anything like it, and can't find much like it online either. This is my first go with hempys, I've been organic and soil up until now and I've been liking how quickly I can identify and fix issues in hempys until this weird issue appeared. Hopefully I can get it sorted ASAP.

No there is no calcium issue going on, just trying to figure out what can cause this. You most likely not need to add calmag…

0,4 points off? So you can easily be somewhere around 5,0 day after feeding… do you feed daily? Are you mixing your nutrients fresh everyday or you have some res?

Yes potentially they could have been getting feed PH'd down to the low 5's. I'm kind of hoping that is it, as that's easily fixable with a heavy flush of PH'd water at least.

I feed every time I water. These were transplanted from 1L to 10L a few weeks ago, so it still takes a few days after watering for the pots to get light. so I water every 3 days at the moment. At the point of watering the pots are really quite light, the plants are just starting to show a tiny bit of wilt on the lower leaves, and the coco is dry on top (but not throughout). I'd say the hempy 'res' is pretty much empty after one full day but the pots are still quite heavy. I'm thinking I should up the watering to every other day instead every three days.

I generally mix it up fresh, not always though. It never sits out for more than a few days though, and I recheck the PH before feeding every time. I don't think it's had a chance to sit out since this issue occurred though, so it's all been mixed up fresh.

That pH may crash after 3 days sitting in your bucket… it can also drift back up after few days in your res using tap with pH adjusters. But as I said I am not familiar to hempy, so maybe I am completely wrong. Before you going to perform a flush (10L water into 10L pot is not flush IMo) do some readings here on RIU, there is bunch of threads about hempys. If I am not mistaken, @kovidkough is growing hempys try to PM him
