weird shit on tip of PH meter???

i havent used my hydro PH meter in a few months, i dont think i put enough storage solution in the cap and when i opened it up yesterday i found the litle glass ball is surrounded by moldy corrosion( looks like an old battery leek) what is it and can it be restored>??? my friend says vinagre will do the trick but i want to make sure theres no other options

not sure if i should be doing this or not but i have been using alcahol to clean mine and don't store it in anything. just try to soak up any wetness with tissue paper or my shirt (lol) untill it is dry before i put it back in the cap.

alcahol will evaporate clean and i have used it to clean disk drives for work, so i figured it is ok. when i test calibration it is right on every time so far. so as far as i can tell it is working,,,,or at least not hurting anything. oh yeah i have semi hard water and am not using RO.

Alcohol is good for cleaning, as long as you let it all evaporate before using it in water again.
And if your PH meter has been out of use for a few months you need to calibrate it.

What do you mean "i dont think i put enough storage solution in the cap" your not supposed to unless you have a different type of metre.

hanna(and others) recommend you keep your PH tips wet using a storage solution so they do not dry out.

pH meters are not supposed to be dried out... unless you're talking about those cheapo dirt meters that don't really work anyhow, who knows about those :lol:

yeah your right growtech!! besides my hydro meter i have a cheap ass soil meter and it only works half the time,,,,lol

Who me? Dude thats not true, I thought if your meter was similar to one the U.K. growers use youd try without the solution & your problem would be solved...but I thought wrong silly me.
