Powdery mildew, aphids, fungus gnats, OH MY!

Really, if ever there were a signal to tear it all down and start from scratch. Lordy, lord.

I can't be the only one who has the severe PM in these winter months when it's cold outside. I suppose more environmental control is needed overall, but I don't have these issues in summer.

In the interim, it's been a minute since my last pest affliction for shear negligence on my part this time(don't judge)...So what's good for everything in late-mid/late flower? I annihilated the aphids with lady bugs, those fungus gnats keep on coming up out of the soil though, and God the PM. Did I mention the spider mites on my Blue Dream?

It really is funny, I've been banging out seven strains for a year at home. Each pest has its strain preference. I'm definitely toning it back to two, maybe three personal favs for 2018.

Okay, so here it is: above average performing, all-around pest annihilating (specifically PM, gnats, and mites), method preferred for late flower?

I'm thinking natural this late in flower. Diatamceous earth for the soil for sure. Maybe homemade essential oil tincture? Though, nothing budget-breaking for the home grower. Any thoughts, recipes or recommnded products to consider? I have a couple in mind, but I look at them and i feel i could just make something as well.

Yes, I do want to burn everything in my grow room to the ground. I think there is the potential to pull a little out of a total loss though.

I lost mothers i had for 4 years this winter.. Me being lazy letting them get rootbound and too cold. So your not alone. I'd honestly salvage whats there, if it's real bad maybe do a solvent extraction if thats your thing. Just curious, do you have air movement/ventilation in there? You usually don't see all of these problems at once.

Well first, there are a lot of awesome products on the market for help with pests. Not many options under $20 for the home grower however. I had the notion for diatamceous earth (keeping with the natural/organic theme) and i found a nifty diatamceous earth/white pepper mix that seems like it would be extra effective on soiltops than diatamceous earth alone. I was thinking essential oil/garlic/pepper spray, again staying natural, but instead of making my own I found this cheap stuff that I really wasn't expecting much from called Spider Mite Eggsterminator. No pepper or garlic, but this stuff smelt like Christmas in a bottle. Big shocker, the name is appropriate. All my mites are dead in one application. Its mite colony apocolypse. When i hit the gnats, they stopped moving, period. Oh, and the PM that completely coated one side of my dj short bluberry, bye, bye.

Second, I'm confident that I can keep all this at bay enough to finish these girls all the way through. That's
a bit of releif. I was expecting to be an aditional $75-100 and a total loss on this harvest. I'll probably be out $50 altogether and I'm cautiously optimistic. So doing a little better today.

We'll see.


furnz, I have a carbon filter on a 8" button fan. I run a 6" button fan on intake during the summer, but much too cold in the winter. Of course a 16' oscillting and another box ban. I wasn't able to keep my interiors trimmed up like they should be, so their was suitable cover for invasion. Yes, solvent-free Rosin is in the future for this harvest.

I'll check back in and let you all know about this Eggsterminator stuff though. Looks cheap and highly effective after a day. We'll see what happens. Fingers crossed.

By the time they form webs, the plants are severely damaged. I think you may still have a long battle ahead of you. But I hope it works!

That mite eggsterminator would be easy to diy, add thyme oil and even better for preventing mold.

Hey man, thanks for this. I was looking to go this route but found countless recipes with nothing in terms of science or results guaranteed for the DIY'er. At least this you provided copies some name recognition. I've been doing a little more research into this Eggsterminator. It's geraniol thats an additional active ingredient thats a terpene, not an essential oil. Seems to have a much more ritcheous effect. Didn't break the bank at about $23/gal. So mixing all those oils and junk in my kitchen on a weekend versus getting this was worth it, so far.

Above all else, I'm not delusional about how messed the hell up and set back I am right now.

You bought a concentrate that works out to 23 dollars a gallon? I've actually been looking for something like that but was leaning towards zero tolerance, not sure how pricey it is to mix up from concentrate but the concentrate sure seems expensive. For a fungicide I've always liked sierra natural science sns244. It's always pleasant to spray. Never really had much faith is SNS pesticides since they're nothing but rosemary oil mainly.

SNS was definately on my list, green cleaner too. As it turns out, I've now found this Spider Mite Eggsterminator for less than $23/gal. Not sure when this stuff came on the scene. Like i said, its been a while since I've been in the market but im feeling this stuff for preventative abatement since its cheap and smells awesome. Their big bottles of concentrate are at <$7/gal. I'll just have to speak to that grow shop about the gouging on the one gallon concentrate. I have no need for 8 gallons though. Or maybe I do.

Seriously I'd use it as a preventative myself that's why I've got an atomist, cycle timer and riptide/nuke em cocktail set to blast the room every 6 hours or so.Bugs can be pretty persistent in certain areas. The only problem I can see is raising the humidity which is why I like a fungicide in the mix too. Very little of the spray actually hits the plant but the fan picks up the mist and carries it around the room.
