What are the odds? (6/7 are male)

Yes the latest photo has a ball on a stem sticking out and likely a 2nd.

Well, since I’m not hearing any dissent, I figure I’ll cull them today or tomorrow. Just checked the next batch that were planted and one had a preflower. You guessed it! Looks male.

Looks being the operative word, post a picture of a true male preflower ill say male, post small stubby things and its too early.

Good luck but people like you always have a high male count and eventually will work that out.

Your odds of getting 5 or more females from the next 10 seeds is 50%. We even heard from a nice gent who unfortunately was the 1 in 1000.

Moving away from stats, this experience is why i moved to fem seeds in this round. I had a very high female % from reg seeds and decided I wasnt up for worrying about males again. I got lucky before and realized i could fill my room and still get screwed.

It is a critical consideration for success. Back to stats --

If i want say 4 female plants and only have space for up to 6...how many should i start? 8? 10? What if i get all females? Its a real issue for growers with limited space. There are many reasons to use reg seeds but also one giant planning problem.

So consider what your priorities are...if you absolutely want to reach harvest with girls, fem seeds may be a good to run at least to get you started.

Has anyone ever REALLY been screwed and using real fem seeds gotten no females?
If the rate of non females is 1 in 100...most likely yes.

Pretty much everything I’ve read online has pictures identical to those “small stubby things” and calls them male preflowers. Are they all wrong? Also, please post a photo of what you consider a true male preflower. I am beginning to think you are pulling my leg because there is no way the thing in that picture I posted is suddenly going to elongate and sprout a pistil on a plant that’s nearly 2 months old.

Yes all the small stubby pictures are wrong but as is a lot of stuff posted, hard to appreciate that fem seed does just the same but thats 100% female not regs.

I doubt those small stubby things will produce pollen either so they are quite obviously not pollen sacs.

If they were flowering the question would be answered by now, plants male or female are not made up of small stubby things but beautifull structures with clear lines and sexually easy to identify.

There is no other way to put this, why arent those stubs growing? Or am i right the plant wasnt quite ready amd made aborts no one can tell.

Great example of a male pollen sac, see the lines down the side where they split open, see their size, how easy it is to say male.

Well, I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree. In any case, I don’t have the capacity to grow out all these plants until they’re six feet tall and the preflowers are fully formed.

Last year, I sexed my plants based on these nubbins that you claim are totally unreliable and I was 100 percent correct “guessing” which were male and female. I know I was correct because I went to full flower with all of them.

Also weird how one of the six this year is obviously female with visible pistils while others of the same exact age are supposedly waiting week upon week to send out those pistils.

The stubby things have grown, it’s just not readily apparent from the pictures because the camera doesn’t focus on what I want it to. I’ve seen none that were aborted and have been checking the exact same spots.

So you’re basically saying all the stuff online about sexing preflowers at this stage is totally wrong?

I don’t mean to be combative but the prospect of raising these goddamn things for another month would drive me crazy. I only got so much room under the lights

You havent flowered them or show one single male preflower. Its because of your impatience all the bad info exists.

The threads over, kill them, i dont have the patience to repeat myself and the other info seens a lot easier to trust until the day you realise there is so much bad info out there.

That’s fine, no need to get grumpy. I still don’t understand why one of the plants has had pistils for about two weeks if it’s “way too early to tell,” but I guess that defies explanation.

My luck has seemed to turn around! And my worries about having using a male with predominantly Y pollen are allayed somewhat. Of the next batch of plants I started, I found 4 preflowers today and four of them have pistils!

I got 2/25 show female last run. Not optimal.

I think I went 8-9 weeks from seed (no training) before I actually felt like murdering them. And another three or so after that vegging the ones I did get.

Well, according to the math formula provided by our statistician friend above, the odds of that happening are something like half a percentage point (maybe I fucked up a bit but close enough) so at least chances are it won’t happen again!

This is my 1st time growing regular seeds and I certainly understand why people pay the premium for fems. 100 percent agree with how much it can screw up a plan, especially in a small grow.

Mine were nice enough to show a nice hefty pair.

I honestly had some really champion males I wish I harvested pollen from now lol. I learned a lot and this run has been much much better for my soul, zero ph or watering issues. I also sured up all traces of light leaks, so there is that!
