What are these brown spots?

Hey All!!!

I just liked my DWC lids with space blankets, yesterday. Since then I've noticed these spots on my plants. Can anybody help me out here?

I'm using GH Flora Trio.

Is it light burn, calcium, nutrient burn or under nourished... I'm at 400 ppm.

These seeds came free with an order I made. Prior to this, the growth had been dramatically stunted. The roots just stopped growing then it grew new roots a week or so after.

PH is good!

Hey Dragon!
I'm a newb, so I truly can't offer any advice. Yet, I have been experiencing the same situation with my plants n was told it looks like a phosphorus deficiency. I'm still some what dealing with the issue, cause I can't find phosphorus alone n not sure what would be the correct dosage. So, I used a few buckets of Ph'd water to flush the plant out(changed the ph balanced water every 2 days for a week, since it's in a DWC, flushing method I believe varies with individual) n started over the nutes over with a higher P on the N-P-K scale. My plants have shown great improvement, but now I have new issues. I hope you get the answers you need n I myself will be paying close attention to your thread n grow!
Hope all turns out well n ya grow stays mean n green!!!

Light burn generally happens on the leafs closest to the light. Can we get a photo with a regular fluorescent lamp? Turn everything back on right away though because your plant looks really good to me. What is your temperature and humidity? Have you foliage fed anything to them yet?, I think I see water spots on your leafs.. What type of water? What is this autoflower strain?

Okay, so after I read this, I looked up the phosphorous deficiency thing and I think you may be right on. I just don't know what to do to fix it? I have all equal parts of the flora trio, plus some hydrogusrd in there.

My roots oh have been within the proper range but I can keep them no higher than 6.2.

I did have some root problems a week or so ago, when all the roots died then regrew.

I just did a reservoir change a few days ago, but.... I can swap it again.

PD!

Posting pics now...

My humidity has been ok (according to the humidity monitor) i see it between 29-40 percent.

My temps range between 71-84

I use reservoir water to water my plants.

The two in the picture are Auto Amnesia and an AK X Diesel cross.

Ok, so what water are you using? Tap water or reverse osmosis water and what are the ppms of it? You say you're using just GH flora series, so my guess is that you;'re lacking in calcium and magnesium (or maybe you have too much of one element in your starting water)

I'm using tap water.

I'm currently at 400 ppm (394)

I also added some Hydroguard in there.

I have no idea what would b in my starting water but on my side of town we're said to have some of the greatest out there, lol.

I assumed the cal mag was plentiful in the GH Trio? Do you think I should sup?

What about a phosphorous deficiency?

PD!

Nice! I wish I was able to give you more help or advice, but I'm pretty much stuck myself. At least you were able to pin point the problem n now you just gotta find a way to execute a plan. I to have had other issues, so b4 I set out to try n conquer another 1, I truly need to make sure I have this under control 1st. My issue now is trying to figure if all my issues are related n if 1 is causing another n what should I address 1st? Well, do allow me to discourage n keep asking questions! Your sure to find the answers you need n will be back on track in no time! Grow Green!

Hey man, you need to check the amount of ppms BEFORE adding anything else. Becuse if you have a high ppm of starting water... then you're going to have a bad time because nutrients will lock each other out etc. I had the exact same problem, because my water had so much calcium in it, that it was locking out the magnesium and other trace elements (hence nitrogen toxicity, brown spots etc)

What worked is when I switched to reverse osmosis water and then started adding cal mag by hand, so I knew that everything was being added at a rational rate.

Once again, check the ppms of the starting water and give us an answer, we'll be happy to help. :D

It's 46 ppm

All righty then that's some clean water if it's from a tap! Lucky you.

So, my guess is that you have a deficiency of a few elements, and are you using GH Flora micro for soft water or for hardwater? You should go with the former, since you're water is presumably soft.

I would advise to get a hold of some cal mag, since you're growing one (or two?) plants, then you can get youreself a small container from for example Sensi. It has calcium and magnesium, plus some other minor elements such as Zinc and Iron.

It's a must since flora micro has fuck all, even though they claim it has what you need.

Okay, I dunno ignore for hard or soft water. That I need to check.

I can get cal mag.

Are you a fan of the flora trio?

Also, here's the thing, also I've noticed my stems are a bit purple and these are for both of the plants in that reservoir, actually all I have 4 total. These are under a PLED P300

I have Another tent with a 1k MH Dimmed down to 50 percent with the same nutrient solution with 2 auto blueberry in there. They don't have the purple stem thing and are growing wayyyy faster.

However, I did start those plants under the LED reservoir in the beginning.

And one is growing noticeably larger than the other. Right before I transferred, the smaller of the plants had some weird discoloration on the fan leaves (light spots). When I transferred them to the 4x4 I snipped those leaves off and let it do its thing. Picture attached!

I'm just becoming totally confused here.

Yeah, you'll need to pick the bottle according to the type of water you have. I'm a huge fan of the flora trio, mainly because it's such an easy to use nutrient line, extremely versatile and the price is fair. You get all sorts of nurtients such as Advaced Nutrients, Sensi etc. that are just extremely overpriced, mainly because they "look nicer". General Hydroponics is tested and easy to use.

The different growth rates sometimes have nothing to do with the growers skills, it's just that every seed is completely different, even if they came from one source. Clones are the only sure way to get a head to head growth rate, seeds can be unpredictable sometimes. The stem turning pruple is an indication of a minor lack of nitrogen, although I wouldn't worry about it, most of the time it pops up even if everything is ok.

So don't worry, just provide the plants the best enviroment and they'll do their thing.

Last Q'n Sir Gregor, do you think 400ppm for DWC reservoir is too low? I just read it should be 800-1500...

Those are really general guidlines, I've also seen estimates at what the ppms should be for mid veg, late veg, mid flower etc.... and I've NEVER ever managed to get 700 ppms with the flora series, so I believe it depends on the nutrient line. People manage to get 1500ppms, but their nutrients are probably less concentrated.

So don't worry, I'm on 600 ppms 90% of the time. The plants will tell you all you need to know, but if you stick with the recommended measurements at the back of the bottles, you'll be right as rain.

Good luck and let me know if you manage to fix the spots problem.

And is this youre first DWC run? It will become easier over time.

Yeah, it's my first one, hoping for the best...

Electricity is PRICEYYYYYYY!

I'm using half of the recommended dosage... Like 1/2 teaspoon per gallon.

Looking at your plants and listening to everything I think they look like that because they didn't have a root system. Always back the lights off when your plant is in trouble. I have a feeling they wouldn't be looking this good if you didn't have things fairly dialed in. If you do have a new problem clear and distinct let us know. (Why you lost your root system I dunno, never heard of that.. I like hydroguard I don't mix it with zymes, but that's me)

Okay, I banged up the nutrients to roughly 800-900 ppm.

Then I added some cal-mag.

All the plants look MUCH BETTER!

I think it had major deficiencies, phosphorous and calcium and Magnesium and nitrogen.

Realizing my tap water was only 40+ ppm I desperately needed to add the cal mag.

My plants are growing so much more vigorously now.

I'll post pics when I get home tonight.

Thanks a lot everyone for the great and helpful input!
