what are these yellow things at the top pf my buds?

Okay, so only one plant has these, and I'm reallllllly hoping that its a form of nute burn, not a form of male genitalia. Here's the culprit, looks like the base/calyx of the pistils are swelling or something. Sorry for the shitty photos my camera sucks

Thanks for all the replies guys. Im gonna see what I can do about better pixs, I'm not gonna be home for a few hours and I was in a hurry anyways. I'm really hoping they're not bananas, but it's only on the very top buds on one plant so I was kind of hoping it was a mix of a heavy feeding + a little too much light.

I recently added a carbon filter and had to switch up my ventilation, and its been running a little hotter ever since then. I'm thinking of making a few changes to get them back down, they used to be 77° steady @ 1000w and now they're like 81-83° F

Try taking a couple of pictures without the HPS on, and see if you possibly have a "Nature Macro" setting on your camera you can use.
That said, I see herm male flowers show up occasionally buried deep in a bud very late into flower - it's not that uncommon, nor is it the end of the world as they don't tend to spread pollen much at all for what ever reason.
I have in the past taken my fiscars & snipped them out as a precaution.

Yeah i cant see anything. Better pics will help. Also this should prolly be in plant problems, now newbie central, you dont seem to be newb enough :-o. Try searching for pics of hermies to compare to, your the only one that can get a real good close up look at your plants.

Hey guys, I pulled the plant out from my tent to get better pics. I'm sitting beside my t5s, half are 6400 and half are 2700 but the pictures turned out a lot better. Let me know if these help any more at telling what's going on.

And heres a couple that show what I'm pretty sure is nute burn. You can see some of the pistils are orange and look dried up and shriveled.

Lemme know if these are any better guys

Hah, thanks man, I always post in the newb section since this is my first grow.

Anyways, yeah I've looked up tons of pics of Hermies (not recently) and have already seen what a male looks like, and I had one plant hermie early on, showing both sets of preflowers, but they weren't mixed. Meaning either the node had a male flower or a female flower. I've seen pics of Hermies where the pistils basically shoot out of the ball, and that's what I was afraid this was. One of those pics up there shows a really good look at how the base of the middle pistils are starting to swell; not sure if they are necessarily "balls" or not, tho.

From what i can see, it looks like its a female, with a minor problem. Doesnt seem to be hermied. Although i have never experienced a hermie so dont hold me to that. Later on in the grow all those white hairs turn orange, which are the orange hairs you find in your finished bud. I can sorta see the swelling your talking about in pic 3 of the first group. I dont see an issue. And in pic 1 of the second group looks like you can see the orange your talking about. I dont think any of this is an issue, expessually at this point, its not creating pollen or anything. If this is your first grow and your noticing minor things like this you are going to do great.

Ohhhh trust me, I notice any little difference in these girls BC I'm like an ostrich, except instead of my head in the sand its always poking in my tent, lol. I've spent a ton of time doing research, and its really paid off. I've had a lot of problems (almost every noob problem in the book) but luckily I've noticed them, diagnosed them, and treated them all before I lost anything but time. The plants are a lot older than they look, but so far I couldn't be happier with how they are doing.

Yeah, so the more I look at it the more I'm thinking it might just be some overfeeding. I actually am surprised I haven't gotten more nute burn, I run my nutes really hot--ffofsoil (which has cooled off, but every time I transplant I add a little more fresh mixed with perlite), and I'm running the roots organics 5 mil master program, which is supposed to be a fees once a week thing (feed then flush) but I have smart pots and tons of perlite, so I usually feed twice and flush once every week. The results have been great, I'm 4 weeks iinto flower but not really counting BC pH times held me back so I'm just kind of going by how they look.

I've also had shortly problems with a shortly breaker that I finally replaced today, but my lights have been getting a weird schedule. My timer stops counting when the power goes out, so it picks up where it left off and runs the rest of the period. Should I worry if the past 48 hours they've gotten 24 hours of light altogether, but its been sporadic, like 8 hours on, 3 hours off, 4 hours on, 12 hours off etc..

That can cause stress, and cause herming, just get it back to normal asap, there isnt much else you can do about that. And yeah i rememeber my first grows, i did it in a closet, i had my computer desk right out side of it and spent hours just staring, and smoking of course lol and staring. My friends thought i was crazy cause thats where i always sat, right in front of it. I noticed a bud that was stolen, it prolly wasnt even .3 of a gram.

Haha, yeah I know what you mean. Plus I don't have anybody else that I know that grows, other than a few rednecks who throw some seeds outside in the spring and are happy to get a half ounce off of a plant.

My biggest concern this firs time around was to try and produce the best quality nug possible. I was really going for a small yield, just enough to try and get my money back and have some smoke til the next crop. I had hoped I would do well (obviously), and knew that studying would help me more than anything, but I never thought I would wind up with the bumper crop that I have. I'm still worried about the colas all filling out nicely, but I have 7 plants going and am now shooting for a half pound. Some of the plants are small, but a couple are pretty big and all of them have at least 4 main tops. I was wanting to incorporate a scrog screen, which I did buy a 7x7" trellis net, but the holes in it seem huge and I don't know if it would help me really halfway through flower.

IMG_20130904_194959.jpg These next ones are about a week old
IMG_20130831_155010.jpgIMG_20130831_154931.jpg

And here's my monster. Its a hybrid, from bag seed. Topped once, then tied the two tops down and let it veg for about 2 1/2 months from seed. The biggest cola on it could be 18", if it all fills out. I'm hoping that my bigger plants like this one will produce several o's a piece, and get me over my half pound marker and closer to 3/4 or so. My cousin told me he thought I might get a pound, but I'd have to average over 2 ounces per plant and I just don't think it'll happen. We'll see.
IMG_20130831_155033.jpgIMG_20130830_202202.jpgIMG_20130831_155143.jpg If you look kinda to the right on that least one you can see that big ass 18" cola. Who knows, maybe I'll get 4 off of this one and 3 off of two others. If that happens I'll be super stoked.

Either way, next run I am gsetting a bigger tent. With my bulb, hood and ballast I could be doubling my grams per watt with just a little more space.

Yeah If things are going well, which they seem to be, much better then my first grow, i wouldnt add the scrog net yet. Just get this crop, and experiment later. After you have done all your research, the only other way to learn is from experiance, and from other experienced growers. I have a similar situation as far as other growers i know. I havnt known a single grower in the area that does it better then me, which doesnt say much. But i help them all learn, as much as i can. I dont think any of them have done there home work.

Id love another tent, to do a veg room and a bud room, but i have a family and growing in illegal territory so im keeping it small. Next grow im getting another 400w light and a co2 setup to try to increase yield and potency. The co2 has the added bonus of decreasing temps.

Your plants look great man, healthy as can be.

Cool, yeah I think you're right about the scrog screen, I've been wanting to add it but right now I'm just not sure it would help. Plus, I've supercropped some of these branches/tops so many times (I'll bend them down and to the outside to try and spread them out) that some of them literally have like 10 knots in a row, all right beside each other. I literally could hang a 5 pound weight off the middle of some of these branches, so I'm sure the plants will be able to hold the weight of the bud.

That's exactly what I'm striving for-another tent, one for veg and one for flower. I recently threw some t5's in my closet. I had one plant vegging, plus wanting to run some clones and stuff and the 12 hour tent just wasn't cutting it. Its a small closet, but it should at least helpe to grow this og kush out into a big momma. I also have to be careful tho, being where I live.

Well dude, thanks for all the advice man! Its hard sometimes getting someone to just pay a little bit of attention. Do you have a journal or anything of your garden?

No i stopped using rollitup for a few years. Not sure why, could have had alot of help here. I just got my room set up again, was waiting to find the right electrician to do it without me worrying about them talking lol. So im currently trying to germinate 2 year old white widow and blue mystic seeds, going for 9 plants, hoping to not grow them taller then 3 feet. In years past i have been experimenting with hydro. But doing a soil grow this time, just trying to get a good quick crop. Soil, in my experience, has been much easier. as soon as i get some seedlings out ill post some pics or the room.
