college can seem pointless the first few years when you are getting all prerequisite classes out of the way. then as you get into your major and the classes that really interest you it will become more interesting. as far as whether it's pointless or not i think that solely depends on your major. if you're pre-med then obviously it very important that you have those general skill and knowledge sets. but other majors are different too. some of them you really don't use anything you learn in school as your employer will basically teach you everything you need to know and how to use it. i worked on wall street after college and i have a degree in finance. didn't use a single thing from my degree. employers like to see that you have what it takes to be responsible; that you retain information and that you have some intelligence. individually i also think it teaches young people to start being responsible for themselves and how to manage their time. all in all it's a very necessary tool in most professional careers these days. good luck.
