What candidate in the Liberal leadership race has a medicinal cannabis position?

Hey guys and gals:

I have been writing to people all over the world trying to raise an awareness for the need of medicinal cannabis. On the home front as you are aware, there is a Liberal leadership race going on. The media really want Trudeau to win but I honestly don't believe he is the answer in my opinion. However, just to be fair I did write to him as well as all the other Leadership candidates. Guess what? None of them replied to my concerns about medicinal cannabis.

Not giving up, I wrote to the current Federal Liberal Leader and said 'Hey why aren't these jerks writing back Bob? (Bob Rae is the current leader) If you want to beat Harper, then you have to give us our medicinal cannabis program with better access than Harper is offering people in 2014.' He didn't write back either.

Frustrated as ever, I came to the conclusion that the Liberals still haven't learned why they lost their majority in the early 1990's. (They became super corrupt and wouldn't do anything for the commoner is why) It was either that or they had the same people running them in the back rooms as they did in the 1990's. Or one more idea...they still had the idea that Canada meant big business only. If any of those are true, then there's no way I'm voting Liberal.

However, recently I did come by a Liberal leadership candidate that does have a medicinal cannabis position. I know it's important to let you know about this person because we are all so concerned about the 2014 laws that Harper is proposing. So in the next post, read up about this Leadership candidate and consider giving this person your vote. You don't have to be a liberal member to vote her in. The Liberals are testing the waters and want to see how the entire country feels about their potential leader.

This is so important that we have somebody to beat Harper. Please consider voting. Don't sit idle whatever you do. Harper wins then. We lose.

Dear Buckets:

Thank you taking the time to write on this important issue. Joyce has been behind the legalization and regulation of cannabis for some time now and has been consulting with Doctors such as Dr. Julio Montaner and Dr. Evan Woods on this issue and on the broader issues of harm reduction. I realize this is a very personal issue for you and I can certainly understand your frustration at not getting a response to your questions. Unfortunately this campaign is run by volunteers and Joyce is also trying to maintain her work as a sitting MP and develop a platform of leadership policies in an incredibly tight time frame. As such, there is really not time to provide well-thought out responses to questions that are specific like yours - as we are still struggling to clarify the larger high level policy framework for her bid for leadership. I know it is hard to trust politicians and none of them can make everyone happy, however, given the tone and the commitment Joyce has made to the issue of changing how cannabis is treated by our current laws. I know she is deeply committed to working with professionals and experts in the field to advise her in the best ways to go forward - there is simply not time in a race like this to get to that level of detail in her policy. Joyce has long been an advocate in the alternative health care field and has committed to cooperate and collaborate as part of her leadership style. I know this may not answer your specific questions, but I think all the candidates and all politicians need to continue to be pushed on issues of importance by their constituents. Joyce has a strong track record of working within her own riding to represent and fight for many diverse views that are brought to her attention.

Warm regards,

Caleigh Garland

Until something drastic happens, our puppet governmment will never change it's stance because the decisions being made towards medical cannabis are above Harper and the federal conservatives. Which pisses me off as I thought the man had a backbone and didn't suck on a bone. As far as I am concerned, Liberals, Coservatives and NDP are in the same boat at the federal level and cater to a higher authority. No matter who you vote in, it will be a different name and face but the same policies and laws will prevail. Now if a whole population or at least the vast majority acted in a contravening way towards a certain set of laws, what would it's government do?

Just like Ghandi led the people of India down to the ocean to make salt in defiance to the British government, everyone here should just start growing Mj, Not to necessarily grow it for the flowers but to even include a couple in your flower beds (they do have cool looking foliage) to show solidarity once and for all against this ridiculous attempt at a select group of people to control something natural I would love to see them try and arrest and convict even an entire residential block of taxpaying, land owning citizens for growing cannabis in their flower beds. Sometimes actions do speak louder than words. I wish the area I lived in was more neighbourly but in this neighbourhood, everyone builds 8' high fences...maybe everyone is already growing lol. I am considering an anonymous approach to my neighborhood/city such as informative leaflets with a few seeds attached. It's now or never with the growing season right around the corner and persecution growing daily.

As I sit and look at the tomato, basil, and chives I have sprouting right along side of some Mj, I marvel at the thought of possibly going to jail, and having my life ruined over these (6) little sprouts which are in amongst hundreds of other 'legal' sprouts to which I treat all the same way...Almost mind-boggling.

Good on you buckets for giving effort towards an issue you feel strongly about and I do hope that one of your letters falls into the hands of someone who truly can make a difference.

Cheers and happy growing.

Hi Fr33mason:

Believe it or not I agree with you re- your first paragraph. I do believe that there are powers at be controlling the people that govern. I sure hope that somebody can break away from them. It's funny that you have freemason as your username. They're a secret society and I wonder how many societies have members within the government. I know in AUstralia right now the PM has been controlled by people in the backroom and has even been charged with treason but the major media have turned a blind eye to it because they're onwed by the same people. I don't know if you noticed but Canada just past a law about the media being allowed to say things that weren't true in the news. Unbelievable. But I hope that maybe one day I can get my freedom back and then can run for government. By freedom I mean no longer doing the shift work that I do currently. The idea of being a commercial grower sounds ideal to me. Imagine a prime minister that did that as a business. That would be awesome.

This Thread/Postings inspired me to write to my local MPP as well as send a congrats note to Kathleen Wynne our new Premier of Ontario to let her know of my deep concerns about the proposed changes under the conservative Gov. I wrote to the Minister of Health regarding my concerns back when they were accepting "feedback" and forwarded my note to her.

Here is a copy of the letter I wrote if anyone feels like dusting one up and sending it out to your Gov officials. The more they hear about it the better chance we have of stoping the Conservatives new changes to the program.

Dear Minister of Health,

As a MMAR holder, and person with a permanent disability, I am
deeply fearful regarding the proposed changes the MMAR /MMPR
regulations. Specifically I must protest the issues of out of pocket
payment patient cost for the medical marihuana. The current proposals
by Health Canada to only allow medical marijuana to be produced for
profit , at a price point those producers set, will be
unconstitutional and a violation of section 7 and section 12 of the
Canadian Charter of Rights and

Any changes made to the Health Canada medical marijuana program must
include alternatives to any profit driven system of production to
ensure continued medical marihuana access by Canada’s 26,000 +
constitutionally legal medical marihuana users.

In the R v Mernagh decision the court found that physicians in Canada
have effectively boycotted the existing medical marijuana program, and
therefore the program itself was unconstitutional. Health Canada's
response does nothing to address this boycott beyond the promise of
making information accessible to physicians.

Many Patients with a personal production license and caregiver
designated growers have spent thousands of dollars and years of time
setting up and or running their production facilities. Many court
cases including; Sfetkopolous, Beren and Hitzig have found that
denying patient’s production licenses on arbitrary grounds without an
adequate effective, MSP covered supply, would continue to violate a
patient's constitutional rights to access medical marijuana. In
circumstances such as requirements for multiple and or strain
specificity any changes to the Health Canada MMAR /medical marijuana
program must include the preservation of personal and or designated
production.

The proposals by Health Canada constitute less than a bad faith
response to court orders, they represent outright defiance. The
current proposals do not meet the needs of medical marijuana patients
in Canada, and will result in a further restriction of patient access
to medical marijuana.

I call upon Health Canada to create a patient expert review committee
and widespread stakeholder meetings then return to the drawing board
and come up with a constitutionally viable program which Canadians can
be proud of.
