Well, it all depends on your setup. Your gonna need both 5600k and 2700k if you intend on vegging before flower. Now, cfl bulbs come in all kinds of different wattages, like 13w, 20w, 40w, 125w etc.. It's all up to you and how you want your set up to be. Go to the indoor grow section under CFL and look at some journals there to get an idea.

Im really new, but this is the info i could give you about cfls. At you're hardware store the strongest you cuold get is like 42 W, but you can get them bigger at hydro shops. idk if thats what you mean, theres also the Ks, like 6300k for veg and 2700k for blooming. Im using Cfls atm, and i know you got to keep the light as close as you can to the plants without burning the leaves, because the light doesnt penetrate very well. Mine are 4 weeks old on sunday, and up until yesturday they had 4x 42W V for 3 plants, about an 1nch away from the closest leaf. (1 directly on top of each of the three, then 1 giving some side light inbetween the 3. They seemed to do very well with that much light, yesturday i set up my lighting rig so they have more light now, 9 Cfls 42 W Cfls.

Oh also, i heard even though 6300k is better for veg, its nice to throw in a 2700k for every 3 6300k you use, to give your plants a diffierent spectrum. I dont know how truethful this is, by i heard it from a few sources who seemed well educatied enough.(at least more than me)

I have 2 cfl's / 1600 lumens = 2400lum , on both sides / I spinn it every few days for dif angles of light , I have her (hopefully her ) on 12/12 n wateing for sex ,

I like to use a bunch of smaller wattage - like 23 to 26 watt....They stay cooler than larger watts, and they are smaller allowing you to cover more of the plant, imo...can really spread them out using Y-splitters, and socket extenders....They are also cheaper, lol.

here's a pic of my last grow...Plant was a skunk haze...You can tell it was tight and bushy....I had the bulbs covering the plant like 1 to 2"

Don't worry about those CFL haters, as I have seen some awesome results from CFL.
They do have their pro's and con's but bottom line is they will produce good quality buds

I would recommend a shit load of 23 watt CFL's as they are cheap and are the most efficient per watt of any CFL
Keep them close (1 to 2 inches) and have lots of side lighting, and use a mixture of 2700k, 5000k and 6500k

refers to the spectrum of light they are giving off. You oculd tel by looking at them, if they are like bright white, or yellowish(beige). the bright white are for veg. It says it on the side of your bulb.
