what distance between light

Hi Guyss, just a quick question, what distance should there be between my 400w hps and the tops of my plants, concerned i may scorch em.!!!

about 18-20 inches. do you have a fan?

how big is it? id go to ace hardware,target ect..and buy one or 2 more cheap fans, 400 hps can get pretty hott.
