What do they mean, spear-shaped buds?

Looking around I noticed how people talk about sativa's having "spear shaped buds". Are they referring to skinnier, less fat cola's? Or to the way individual calyxs stack onto one another?

Any help for this admittedly trivial question is appreciated.

Sativas will usually produce longer, fluffier, more 'spear-like" buds than an indica..which makes more dense/chunkier buds on average when grown in proper conditions.

thanks for the reply bt dt, however...

My confusion hinges on their definition of buds... you know how it goes.

It's ganja, says one. No, its nugs, says another. and so on.

So to condense: when people speak of spear shaped buds, they mean the look of COLA's? Or the individual clusters of calyx's as they grow one on top of each other?

I might be being to picky...

any help appreciated.

bump.

sorry people, it's just that i got this sativa in flower, and am trying to gauge how much more light i need for next grow (right now it's 2x 70w hps in cool tube; cabinet grow).

So, can anyone help a grower out?

they mean the overall look of the cola. the profile if you will. sativas are fatter on the bottom going to a point on top, like a triangle. indicas are the same from top to bottom, like a cylinder.

Damnit fdd2blk, I had finally convinced my self that the individual buds were what they meant. My buds are WAY to sparse (but very crystal covered), and since the seeds were just good bagseed w/no idea of the parents, it could be light or genetics or both... sigh. Oh well i'll be an optimist and assume they still have like a month and will be monster buds!

Thanks for the reply fdd2blk.
