What do you consider Harsh?

I haven't grown any buds that I thought was harsh at all. I remember getting some merc back in the day that was.

I just wonder if people confuse expansive with harshness, which imo is two different things totally.

I also think harshness can be caused by different smoking methods. I've had some smoke that was real smooth in a joint but if you put it in a bowl it would burn your throat. I think getting too high of an air/smoke mix causes it for some reason.

But I hear people talking about weed hurting their lungs.. I get that with good smoke (expansive) more so than with anything I have ever considered low quality.

I'm not much of a judge on what is going around these days though. I pretty much smoke my own, that's why I'm growing it lol. The few people I hang out with that smoke are usually smoking mine too lol.

I think the bowl can matter also js and blunts sometimes make me cough up not one but two lungs and my dinner once. also people used to not cure quite as good so that would also have a factor.

best judge is what color the ash turns. light grey to white is quality, should be smooth, easy to smoke, if you have to burn it and char it and you are left with black ash, either there is a curing problem or not a proper "flushing"

I always fell like heavy indicas (see Kyle's strawberry cough) are kind of "harsh" by definition. I think that is why a lot of older fellas dig sativas.

I think I see were you're coming from and I've thought about this quite a bit. I can feel a huge difference between harshness in my throat and expansion in my lungs. I clean my bong pretty much spotless after every smoke and after doing that for the past year or so I've found dry pipes and joints to be a little more harsh.

I've had something I thought was harsh leave a pretty white ash so I'm not sure if you can always determine it by that, but it's definitely not a bad method.

I'm pretty frickin picky about what I smoke and it might not be just me, but 90% of the buds in dispensaries are harsh and really lack flavor. To be honest I saw better weed in high school lol.. Am I just being a jackass or is anyone else experiencing this?

Can't wait to get my grow set up again...

Expansive is good, harshness is bad.. I can cough a lung out and still consider it not harsh, it just expands my lungs.

I think there are other ways to miss the cure and not get harsh. An example would be some NL5/Haze I had picked up at CannaCure earlier this year. It was the "strain of the day" discount only because the grower missed the cure just enough/too fast to loose the flavor & smell. The budz were a site to see. I'd consider it one of my top 10 scores this year.

If this were an indica, there may have been more harshness.

Agreed, harsh smoke will leave your throat feeling sore like you're coming down with a cold.

I smoke out of nothing but glass bowls, everything else (paper, steel bowls) seems to just add to the problem... the key is to make heavy use of the carb, I tap it repeatedly just to get lil hits of smoke while taking the toke... you can always take another toke, but if you're coughing your ass off it won't be easy. I think it's good to use a torch lighter too, they burn cleaner, but if your carb-fu is in a state of decay you'll be headed to the ER for some oxygen.

People mistake my high quality bubble hash with harshness because of lung expansion. I think about the harshest hit you can take it some stale smoke out of the chamber! I havent smoked or grown any harsh meds in so long I forget how it feels to smoke hash bud. I would smoke others buds but I haven't seen anything worth trying over mine yet,..

The first vape bag I had enjoyed from a Volcano was a master kush that fucked me up but made me cough like a mad man :?: Does the vape in those bags get "stale"?

When you stick the wrong end of the joint in your mouth: that's harsh.
Almost all hash is too harse for me in a pipe.
But sprinkle it in a joint, and only light one end, and it ain't bad at all.

Kalashnikova from green house. I just finished a plant and I have to say it's terrible. Harsh smoke and terrible high. My opinion ofc. I used Coco P and Perlite 50/50 with purified water and nectar for the gods nutrients. terrible genetics, just saying.

For me harsh is when it "roaches" my throat. I think the growing/smoking method could effect this but for the most part it's the bud. Expansive smoke IMO is awesome, an completely different from harshness. When you take that big hit an it fuckin collapses your lungs is when you know your smoking some fuckin BOMB!
