What do you look for when seed shopping & why?

I used to THC hunt, the more the better but that's over. Yield is a concern but not a priority to me. The effect is the 1st priority for me with longevity next.
I want a good buzz that let's me work but takes away the stress & anxiety. Obviously I have to rely on the seedbank & breeder for accurate information but I also heavily rely on members here & in other forums because I'm not certain that a hybrid that is 80% indica will be significantly more couch lock than a 60% indica hybrid. So far I have ignored the CBD levels which probably isn't wise.

I just ordered some Anesia Seeds White Runtz because of the reputation of White Runtz. I'm hoping Anesia did a good job. I think WR has the buzz, flavor, & longevity that I want & I plan or hope to find a good mother. I also got some Fast Buds Gorilla Cookies Auto to test run autos because of the reputation of Fast Buds & because I like GSC & I haven't tried any gorilla strain.

right on bro, quality over quantaty

i shop for good outdoor strains for growing again, ive not been growing for 14 yrs now and things have changed a lot. and i made the mistake of growing hindu kush x kush cbd this year and lets just say its prone to bud rot and leave out the part where i was throwing big colas because of it.
im now more concerned with the cbd variaties, i like the balance the high brings and the medical benafits. but im a gunna have to start growing indoors again sadly, but the srrains for outdoor growing in the uk havent hit the main streem yet as far as i know

High THC strains are popular because people think they are getting more 'bang for the buck'. :dunce:

If you like CBD, High Alpine Genetics makes good seeds.

The web site is a little wonky.
Main menu is the little box in the top left corner, and all of the product descriptions are minimized by default.

I bought a couple hundred seeds from the "F1 Fighter Line" to try outdoors in 2021. :leaf:

the only problem with those seed companys is they dont take into account our shitty short growing season with lots of rain . bud rot is a big problem for a lot of outdoor growers, you could call it our bain

I look for real breeders who do the hard work of preserving and sifting through landraces for unique individuals, then breeding generation after generation of plants to perfect the new line. Look at what Ace does compared to the average "breeder" that takes a popular cut from a competitor, smashes it into another popular cut, then passes off the F1 generation as a new "strain." Then these people have the gall to say something like, "there are 4 common phenos of our new strain guys, have fun finding what you're looking for!" This kind of haphazard "breeding" is the reason why the drug cannabis gene pool is shrinking by the day, and while the average THC level has gone up, the popular strains have become so much more homogenous than they were twenty years ago. If we want to see interesting strains in the future, we need to preserve the full range of landrace genetics, including the wild type cannabis.

Obviously you didn't look at their products.

The F1 Fighter Line was made specifically for the environment you described.

"This seed line was created to make a very vigorous hybrid F1 crosses. These crosses make very uniform mono crop that will harvest 3 to 4 weeks earlier than your average hemp plant. Our F1 Fighter Line are promising for northern regions and will help regions above and below the 37 parallel harvest before the late season rains come. "

Thomas Swanson is a real breeder who works his lines. I'm not impressed with his web site, but obviously that's not his forte.
I found a few keepers in a pack of 'Farmers Daughter' by High Alpine Genetics and have been running them for years.

Zero problems with hermaphrodites and the buds smell better than most of the other strains in that crop.

Very nice.

I live in the Pacific Northwest and have experienced the problems you described.
In fact, this year was brutal and I lost at least half of my outdoor crop.

The F1 Fighter Line should be perfect and I can't wait to try it!

I like a lot of the crosses I smoke but when I bought seeds there is very little info about the resulting flower. For example I am waiting on some JMO seeds in the mail and I know basically nothing about the strain. I can’t find reviews from anyone who has grown it out so I’m hoping the time, money and effort will result in a good product. I’d like more testing and write ups before a “drop.” The breeders send the seeds out to testers but I’m not sure why the testers results aren’t published.

There's nothing wrong with being a pollen chucker, as long as they don't claim to be a real breeder.
And the price of their seeds should reflect the amount of effort it took to create them.

The seed business can be shady AF.

As I mentioned previously, the descriptions are not expanded by default.

Click the little '+' by the description.

So I maybe a lil different as I go for what piques my interest. If I see something I want to try I grab it. I learned a long time ago that even if everyone says they love it it dont mean that you will so get what you think you will enjoy and go from there.

Don't be fooled by scarcity marketing!
Seriously.

And don't let "freebies" affect your buying decision.
I've seen various forms of deceit in this area.

The last time I got fooled, it was a breeder advertising "Buy 1 get 1 free".
Sounds good, right?

Well as it turns out, the free "pack" only had 5 seeds -- and it was a different strain.

It should have said "Buy 1, get less of something different free".

I look for strains that tick all the boxes. There are so many awesome strains out there that have average yield so yield does matter to me. I don't buy anything that's known to be a low yielder. I follow the hype to a degree. If theres hype behind a breeder or a specific strain theirs a reason why... often over hyped but will usually find something special in a pack.

I should mention that some seed exchanges like GLG actually let you pick your freebies so if you’re surprised, it’s not their fault.

Moral of the story: beware of BOGO specials.
If it doesn’t say exactly what you will be getting, your freebie could be a box of chocolates.

Thanks for the tips. A good CBD strain is on my "next" list.
