What do you think??

I'm planning a grow and will soon be getting all new equipment.. I want to double check that I have all the right stuff so I don't run into any problems along the way.. I'll be getting a 3x1.5x2m tent (5x10). 2x 1000w ballasts with 8" (200) cool tubes, dual spectrum bulbs, 2 x TD silent 8" (200) fans and a 10" (250) rhino pro filter. Using 20 ltr (4.4 gallon) airpots. The fans are 800 m3/hour or (470 cfm) one for the cool tubes and one for the filter plus a tt 125 fan I already have for bringing in cool air.. I'll also be using subcools super soil growing big bang.. What do you guys think of this set up? I'll be sucking the air from the tent and cool tubes thru the wall into the next room.. Do you think this will be enough to control temp and humidity in the summer time when temps can get up to 30 degrees celcius? Is there anything you would change or add?.. Thanks in advance for any input.. :)

I have read/viewed videos showing that dual spectrum bulbs have an inferior lumen and PAR rating than straight up equal watt hps. A side by side comparison of multiple bulb/ballast companies should be an easy find on the googlator.

If it was me, which your not, I would opt out of the dual spec.

Ok so would it be best to use mh for veg and hps for flower? I've read that they still need some red light in veg and they still need a small amount of blue light in flower so thought maybe the dual spectrum would help with that.. Which 1000w bulbs would you recommend thru veg and flower?

Plan on getting a dehumidifier. It will save you loads of torment, plus make drying extremely easy/controllable. Also make sure you have a backup fan and bulbs. Really sucks when something decides to die during the middle of a grow.

Cool thanks I do have a dehumidifier from my last grow when the humidity was hitting 60% so I'm ok there :) Does anybody have more info on what bulbs and lighting i should use for veg and flower?..

I used to use SUNMASTER DUAL SPEC LAMPS.

Pretty good lamp with enhanced blue spectrum.

I now use POWERPLANT SUPERVEG MH for veg growth and SYLVANIA GROLUX HPS for flowering.

You can veg anything up to about 6 weeks with hps though without any real problems.

The only reason I have switched back to MH and hps combos is to make sure I get 3 flower runs from my HPS lamps.

When I was using solely hps with around 6-7 weeks veg I would start to see deminishing returns.

New bulb - 439g dry
Second run - 427g
Third run - 379g

Then change the bulb. But also this was due to vegging with the bulb too. (400w by the wAy)

Sounds good, I don't know how exactly you are going to set up but had you considered using 3 or 4 600w lamps instead of 2 1000w? To give better light coverage?

Cool thanks Jon so if I do two full grows then change the bulbs things should be ok might even change every time.. But glad I can use the one bulb for the whole grow.
I'm hoping having one 1000w light in each half of the tent with 4-5 under each light will be enough if I have more lights i might need an extra fan and another hole in the wall..

Sounds good to me.

Yeah 2 runs should be good for each lamp.

Keep the old ones as blow out spares if they're still working.

Think about how you will start seeds though.

You can do it with HID lighting as I pop beans with my 400 setup but light height plays a massive role.

Could be worth while looking into a cheap t5 lamp 6400k just for starting seeds etc.

Also gives you a small cloning setup should you take any.

I have some root riot blocks and a 125w cfl do you think that is good enough? Do you know the best distance from the seedlings?

With a 125w cfl you could get that about 3" above soil seedling level.

I would use the 125w for about 10-14 days.

Then move them to the tent with lighting about 4ft above them and gradually lower it down.

If you see any stretching lower it further.

I keep my 400w about 2-3ft above seedlings and lower it gradually as growth starts to take off.

Finishing about 8" above my canopy where it remains until harvest.

Cool thanks, yeh i wanted to veg for 2 weeks in 6 ltr pots then transplant to final pots and veg for another week or two while super cropping and lollipopping. Would the cfl cover 10 x 6ltr pots?

No.

But you'll want to start them off in smaller pots anyway.

I keep mine in approx 0.5L pots for about 10 days then transplant.

The 125w would be ok for 10 seedlings in small pots until they reach they're 3 bladed leaf set and then you'd need to transplant into your 6L.

Then you could veg then under your hps for another few weeks.

With 1000w lights you're going to want to veg for at least 6 weeks.

Ideally more like 8 to really utilise the penetration power of the 1kw lights.

Ok cool so i do 10-14 days in 0.5 ltr pots then transplant to 6 ltr pots for two weeks then transplant to final pots for two more weeks :) I got it now. I'm just hoping I have enough space for 10 cos I'm guessing they're gonna get pretty big and they grow wider rather than taller. I'm pretty new at this it will be my second grow. I'm going to try super cropping and lollipopping this time. Do you think I can train the stems to certain positions when super cropping to try and space out the top buds for even light? What stage do i super crop? I'm guessing I train the stems from the beginning trying to get eve space between buds. I'm looking for a good yield with nice buds not like all the popcorn I got with my last attempt

TThe strain will be big bang by the way I want to start off with indicas.. I did big bang autos before and i like the way they grow. I'll see what the next batch turns out like and if it's nice I'll stick with it if not I was thinking of trying some nice strains like vanilla kush or pineapple chunk but I'm not sure how easy they are to grow or what the yield is like..

I'm sure big bang is meant to be pretty fast too, it says ready in 9 weeks not sure if they mean start to finish but as I'llbe begging for 6 weeks it'll take longer not sure how long I'll have to flower for with these I'm all about getting max yield in the least time but if it takes a little longer than I thought I'll stick with it as I want as much as I can get :)
