What exactly do you want to trim off your buds?

Hey all! I will be harvesting my first crop in the near future and I’m wondering about trimming.... obviously the fan leaves go, but how bout the sugar leaves and such?

Depends on the person. I like my nugs trimmed high and tight, better bag appeal, but some like to leave the sugar leaves on to protect the bud. The leaves burn faster and make for a harsh smoke.

Trimming can be critical depending on your drying method. Leaving more material on is sometimes advised if you’re in a very dry climate or your drying process is below say 40% RH. THe extra plant material helps add moisture and increases humidity slightly allowing for a slower dry.

If you’re in a high humidity area when drying, you’ll want to remove foliage to help prevent moisture build up and molding.

I only grow for my own consumption, so I don't really care about leaves.

I trim the sugar leaves until the bud has some shape to it, but I don't dig into the bud and remove leaves at the stem.
I concur. I grow for myself so bag appeal is not important. I trim to shape it up but mainly to make some bubble hash
