Sunshine is most intense at the equator where it is closest to the earth. Some of the largest, resin-coated buds in the world grow beneath this blazing sun. So whats this got to do with indoor growing? Plenty. Light is one of the most basic needs of all cannabis plants and the most often mismanaged. Grow the strongest, healthiest cannabis plants that reach their maximum potential for resin production. Bright light brings big buds. DO you still feel the problem you had with your plants was the result of those not so bright T5'S I DONT. But thats just me.

i hear from a grower buddy that when dealing w big plants, he shakes them to boost the strength of the main stem/stalk. it may stun the growth upwards a bit but he says thats way better then a branch snapping under the weight of the big nugs. i hope to have this problem someday, but i still stress them a lil by moving them around. i ran a little test, did it to a few, and left a few alone. the main stem was twice as thick in a week. i shake them all now, not violently, just imitating the wind...

T8s can get that close and even touch. I have been useing T5HO for over a year now. I switched from 1000 watt Mh (2) to 4 4bulb 4' T5s
AT first I had them at 12" and the plants did not do well and where ridging bad, so I moved them up for a few days and kept doing that until I found the optimal distance. As it turns out 20-24" was the best.
This is with many different size plants. I was getting them to 22" (thats when I flower) quicker than I was with the 2 1000 Mh. :joint:

In High Times a few issues ago they did a t-5 12/12 and a HPS 12/12 the results where this: The T5 buds where small and dense with super coated buds full of trichs. And the HPS buds where big and girthie but not nearly as trich coated as the T5s.

not to mention guys didnt ganja say he wuz using high output floros...? those do compare with HID lighting ...very competitive lumen output..and im sure u can scorch ur plants w/ those all the same..it aint a soft white bulb u dig?

FIMing combined with LST, a lot of trimming, decent lighting and a good feeding schedule is what I do to get maximum yields. I also think the Coco Peat helps along with some big pots to allow for maximum root growth.

As for too much light, I am yet to see that myself and I have seen rooms with only 4 plants that had over 7000 watts from 600 watt lights with no bleaching problems at all.

lol the 600 hps sure as hell bleeched my young ones on a 24 veg at 1 ft. Went to a 250mh and the green'd up nicley though they were booming under the 600 hps. I've got a adjuster wing shade and got it diped right in and tryed for the hot spots and noticed growth slowed, maybe they got stunned and that explains it.

ok so some of you personally havent seen light bleach. lots of us have.
light bleach = no chloryphil = no good.
it happens with well cooled HID lights that get too close.
put a 1000w HPS in a cooltube with a big fan behind it and then put that light near the plant.
the plant doesnt burn, crisp, or yellow. it goes white.
once you see it you will understand

lightning is really just the first step to a huge yield.
most importantly, you want the best coverage per square foot and the best penetration. if the light isn't strong enough to penetrate all of the foliage, your yield will be less, regardless of the type of light.

but yeah, like this man says, a good yield comes from techniques like lst, fim, topping, trimming, etc.
of course, the bigger the pot and the less work the roots have to do, the better the vessels for bud production can operate!

i know, my post above was unclear lemme try again.....i meant like a full blown male cuz some people believe they can change during veg what sex they are (like they'll say doing this or that will result in more females or doing this or that during veg will make a plant that would of been female into male)
