What happened to ChilLED?

Recently, Growmau5 developed a 50w pcb with his logo and name on it using 3000k and some far red, I believe.. Vitaly has taught him well it appears. He designed the pcb to fit a vero heat sink, I believe. I do not follow Growmau5 or ChilLed but I hear about them in social media.

I like Vitaly's controller, reminds me of my DMX controller, my clients use for stage light systems, but it is nice. His controller is what allows the hub connect type systems similar to DMX systems, everyone gets an address and gets addressed by that address and others ignore the commands not being sent to them. Downside is higher amps flow thru system vice driver to pcb/cob direct. Quick connect is nice but pricey. They work hard and that is the path to success.

I agree. personally I think the cases and fans make the chilled lights look kind of awkward.. bulky.. outdated.. I know they are top of the line lights, not hating on chilled, just some constructive criticism... while I'm at it though, I'm also not a fan of the size and shape of the chilled pcbs. at 125W (?) max, I wish the diodes were spread out over a larger surface area.. I also wish everyone would just use square pcbs.. are we not all trying to light some number of square feet (or square meters)?... with led the choices are cobs, strips, or boards.. I don't see any reason for boards to be any shape other than square.. with round cobs, linear strips, or square boards you could light any space you needed to.. right? is the rectangular shape of quantum boards, chilled boards, photon fantom boards, etc by design or just totally arbitrary? the rectangles have always bothered me.. there I said it.. feels good to get that off my chest
your gonna like the Skin, its 'fit to be square'

Ive been walking around with that idea for a long time, replacing your cobs with round ±50W pcbs that cover the whole surface of your existing pin heatsink so many growers already invested in, with any colour combination you like on them. Possibly even a ring shape, for mounting around an existing cob and then you just wire it in series with the cob....

There is so much possibilities. But I think in the end the best shape would just be the same shape as where the LED industry took off; the LEDSTRIP
A simple narrow aluminum strip with one or 2 channels on it.
They are so versatile, colling is a breeze, air flows around them, you can place 2-3 diferent ones alongside on a simple extruded heatsink, the spread is even more optimal than a qb and a lot more versatile, with strips you can give any shape growroom an optimal spread without hotspots....

Small, well designed powerhouse boards like chilled's especially in higher grow spaces or as supplemental lights in greenhouses I can imagine them shining like a BOSS.
I love how the guys show us how simple it actually is, the building blocks it is just scanning spreadsheets, combining, simple steps, not rocket science. I can also see the logic behind packing the diodes nice and dense on a small surface and actively cool the heatsink. It's just less material, less bulky, less parts and less to break/bend.
I also like the sleekness of a qb but I would never buy one if I would rather buy strips..

I think Chilled will eventually take off like a rocket, in this industry hounesty just takes some time to take notice, but I have no doubt in my mind they are gonna dominate a good part!

DMX yes, I was also surprised about the big gap that seemed to lie between led growlights and DMX controlled stage lightshows.
Everything is already invented and implemented for decades in the theater/event industries, in street lighting, aerospace.... And I have been waiting and waiting to see when designers and producers finally put the technologies together in a usefull bulletproof growlight.

Maybe I will have a try with designing some pcbs myself one day :)
But only if they don't already exist :P

what is this pcb? i dont recognise any led on it? ( looks a 3d model)

I use a 4" x 16" format to get between strips and cobs. With just three boards I can cover a 2x4 area very nicely.

I am thinking of using ESP devices for wireless connectivity, but costs go up with that approach with a wireless transmitter and receiver. My client has videos of wireless DMX systems they use. They are the experts, I just program the controllers to listen to their master controller.

For me, DMX uses high current signals from controller to receiver, while non-DMX uses 5v signal control with localized higher current isolated from signal path with the driver
