I was thinking about trying it but im not sure. My thought was to go from 18/6 to 17/7, 16/8,15/9 and so on down to 12/12. any thoughts on it?

yeah i will be because i was planning on doing it for 6 days untill i get to 12/12. i figured maybe this would ease into flowering a little bit more? maybe trigger it a day or so early, who knows.

That's pretty much the way we all used to do it - "Slow & Easy"! Then we found out, it doesn't really make any difference!

I agree. Just switch it to 12/12 whenever you're ready and I always change my reservoir and add flowering nutrient the night before. If you wanna speed the process up look into Advanced Nutrients Bud Blood. It's cut the transition period down to three or four days in many of the plants I've grown and you only use it that one time at the beginning of the flowering period. Good luck with whatever you decide
