what has happened to fox farm soils?

I use to grow in soil all the time.
I used fox farm soils, happy frog and ocean forest.

But lately all I get are bags full of bark and rocks.
Where did it all go wrong for fox farm soils?

I never used the soils myself, I use my own compost material that i make from mulched leaves and grass, bags of cheap potting soil and leftovers from the 2 acre garden I put in every year to feed about 50-75 people along with myself.. Ive seen that even miracle gro potting soils arent as good as they used to be.. I do use the fox farm bloom booster and other fertilizers.. It reminds me of chocolate milk and who doesn't love chocolate milk?? I have never had a complaint with the boosters or fertilizers..

I do use fox farm nutrients still but the soils have turned to garbage now.

I hear reports of this but in Michigan I have been using ocean forest for 4 years from seed to harvest in my 12-24 plant perpetual garden and it has been of consistent quality.

I think That's all soil.. Miracle gro potting soil has turned to mulched wood pieces and a clay mud mixture.. Im not paying $15 for that.. Im really glad I have a cow pasture next to me for a little bit of fresh soil to add to my own compost..

Same in Cali, soil hasn’t changed at all.

It's not your imagination and you're not alone . First it was sold. Then they "lost" some longtime suppliers and moved the production facility . The company published a letter in trade papers blaming a bunch of shit.

I'm using ocean forest mix right now with my clone. Had a huge bag left over from a closet grow from about 4 to 5 years ago. So if fox farms has changed the ocean forest mix I haven't seen it yet. But fox farms is all I've ever used. And I've never had any issues with it. I also use the dirty dozen great results.

I am glad the soil is working for you.
I use too get great bags here in California.
The last few bags i have got all had too much bark and alot of rocks.
I mean big marble size rocks.
I use to get nice bags of smooth clean dirt. If there is such a thing. Lol

Well I hope you can find something that your comfortable with and suits the needs of your plants at the same time. Might lead to making your own homemade mix but hey that can be fun!

Ditto, 3 years using ffof, coast of New England, no problem (few gnats on occasion tho)

I believe the gnats are a storage issue.

I use FFoF in every grow, the soil seems okay, I have never had a problem with it. Now depending on where I get it from, there can be fungus gnats, diotamscus earth(food grade) and fly stips usually helps.

These two plants were planted in FFOF this summer, with a small percentage of perlite and coco. The wood stakes are 8' tall, pounded in the ground 6". Soil works for me.

These were all sprouted in ocean forest and transplanted up to fresh pots and soil with unadjusted well water until flowering. After 2-3 weeks in flower I add pure Blend Pro Grow only through harvest.

I have only ever seen a few gnats but they went away with a better dry cycle between waterings and a less dense canopy.

I don’t believe they came from the soil.


I always buy it where it is stored indoors and climate controlled.



All different strains/crosses and at all different stages of growth.

these were grown in FFoF, at harvest one and a quarter pounds.

Don't know, but I do know my hydro store Stores Only inside, I've seen her storeroom area. Its not an infestation but I've seen a few, hit a particularly nasty bag a few back, that's when I asked her about storage etc., but aside from that no prob, I like the ffof in general, add 20% perlite & good to go!

I'm sure theres better soil, there's one called Coast of Maine in my area, it's 50% more money, but it's even hotter, so I don't see the benefit in it at least in my particular growing situation?
