What influences smell and taste?

The past times I've had Jack Herrer from my shop they smelled sweet and fruity and it was at 35/eigth. This time they had a new batch for 30/eight and it smelled extremely like what I used to think smelled like a house but I believe is an earthy smell which I don't like. It also tastes "earthy" which really makes the whole session unpleasant for me and I was wondering what causes a different taste if it's the same strain? And I feel like I have a dirty head high is that possible?

It could be any number of things. First would be pheno. Each strain has hundreds of POTENTIAL traits, one being sweet fruity Jack Herrer you liked and one being more earthy. It could also be the way it was grown with and lastly how it was cured.

Could it give a bad high and make me sad or is that based off mood? Because I usually feel uplifted but this seemed to bring me down and confuse.

Everything looks normal. Like qwizoking said, its likely just more indica dominant. Gives more of a body high and can make you feel like not moving much (couch lock).

Could it be the apple your smokimg out of is bad? You say it taste like a house? Like lumber?? That would be how it was dried. Bud can actually absorbe smells around it. So if its dried in some shitty box it would soak up the lumber smell and then taste like it. For your mood. Try not to get stuck thinking to your self much and youll stay happier. Happenes to me from time to time.
