I just started my own little micro/stealth grow to get my feet wet I am currently trying to get 4 candy cane auto's and 1 hash plant reg(all feminized) to germinate by paper towel method(I'm scared of handling them I broke one once) I wanted to do them by soaking and soil but could not for fear of ruining my expensive seeds with no possible replacement. I just came here to ask how do a lot of you deal with the misinformation(pure "organic" hippies) or the (goddamn) merchandisers telling you that any other way is pointless? I honestly just want it as simple as possible without fiddling around with bottled nutes but now I just don't know whether I am just wasting my time with such an idea and I should just should learn to mix? or can I use compost(top dressing?) and tea and possibly something to use for phosphorus for bloom? I am using basic wal mart pro mix potting soil btw.

First if your soil has any plant food in it do not use it. At all. Others will confirm. Use plain potting soil. I have grown since 1966 and I drop them in the ground like nature does. Works for me.Others use paper towels, or rockwool cubes (for hydro usually). You can buy plant food at Lowes or Wally World but know what you are looking for. A fish emulsion fert at 5-1-1 is fine for vegging. Home Depot has Pro-Mix BX that has beneficial mycorrizae in it but no other nutes.Check it out.

If compost is actually composted it will be weed and grass free. If not . . . . .. Don't balk at using good products on your expensive seeds.

And phosphorus and potassium and etcetera for bloom are the same elements in tomato food as in pot food. Just check the amounts/percentages. Mix your feeds no stronger than 1/4% to begin and increase with each feeding. Feed/water/water and repeat.

Perfect. Pot does not need nutrients for a while after sprouting and growing. Water only. The plant should be at least 2 weeks old, preferably 3, before feeding it even a weak solution of 5.1.1. You do know what those numbers each stand for right? If not look them up and see why veg will be like 5.1.1 or around there while bloom will be like 0.5.5 or around there. It's important to understand what each means and how the plant utilizes each.
