what is a sprout?

Is a sprout when the stem starts to grow and is visible, or just when the root has emerged? The reason i ask is because i was told to give seeds light when they sprout.

Thanks

as soon as you see anything come out of the ground then you have your sprout and should begin your lights... also, i recommend 24/o rather than running 18/6 light times for veg...

Why do you recommend 24/0 over 18/6? Please elaborate.

i prefer 18/6, 24/0 for the prevegitative stage is best tho (thats the 1-2 weeks the sprout grows befor leafes and nodes start growing) it keeps it shorter and stronger, also helps root developement enourmously and thats most important durring sprouting. but like i said after the plant has a few nodes and leaves i like to take it to 18/6, this makes it grow more, marijuana grows roots and stores energy in them durring the day when they can make food. at night when they cant make food they use the food they srored all day to build the plant. so the plant itself grows at night.

HiOnHydro and I have found that a 24/0 start for 2 weeks followed by 2 weeks of 18/6, and of course your specific flowering times at 12/12 yield the best results. The reason for this is simple; the seedlings need the constant source of light energy in order to effectively grow and at the same time store that energy for darkness. When the switch is made to 18/6 the seeds utilize that built up energy immediately and the growth is quite noticeable. After that, the seeds that were exposed to this "gradual" lighting system as opposed to the 18/6 - 12/12 system grow at a much better rate and with much healthier root and leaf sets. Treat the plant as if it were an infant and use light as a measure in time dedication. The earlier the child is, the more attention (light) it will ultimately need in order to be effective for itself. A really rough example, bu i hope I got the point across. Good luck guys
