What is better light for veg? I am setting up two separate area's:hump:veg /flower room and was wondering if any EXPERIENCE growers can tell me there personal opinion. I have looked all over and have yet to find this one. Please Help:joint:

6500K T5s would be better unless the HPS is a 600+ watt lamp and even then I'd rather bathe them in blue during vegetative stage.

Well if they would be equal wattage id go for the t5's but if the hps is gonna be a couple hundred watts more, then definately use that. It may stretch a little, but you'll see a significant amount of more/faster growth

I use a 400w 8 bulb t5 and I love it for initial veg, but I still throw them under a 1000w for a few weeks before switching to flower. Nice equal light spread on t5's, that's the best part.

it all depends on the light spectrum really. in the veg stage the plant uses more blue light and an hps has more orange and red light. what this means is that there is more usuable light for the plant with the cooler colored bulbs. but they do have hps bulbs with added blue spectrum. what ever you decide to go with just make sure that its providing the plant with the type of light it needs and not just more light. while adding more light can work and im sure you can get decent if not good results. on a watt per watt comparison the cooler colored bulbs will do better. blue light helps decrease the internodal space so you can end up with shorter plants that can make better use of the light. good luck

HID lights are going to be better but they are a pinpoint light source.. and they produce heat so you have to have them raised or cooled. The better question is which is better hps or mh for veg. t5's are more efficient with smaller vegging plants.

your def need to use floresents for veg.. closes to regular sunlight during the day..
hps will actually slow your veg down because that mimics the fall( when flowering takes place)

Why even buy a Fluoro when you have HPS, I veg with HPS and have for years. I also veg with MH and have even used Fluoro to veg. As far as difference? With equivalent wattages the HPS always wins. Why? becasue HPS is the MOST efficient lighting commonly available. A 600 watt HPS puts out 95,000 lumens, a 600 watt MH puts out 55,000 lumens, 600 watts of CFl puts out 40,000 lumens and 600 watts of T5High Output grow fluoros puts out 55,000. As far as heat is concerned, HPS puts out the least heat per Lumen than all other lighting solutions commonly available, Fluoros and CFl's put out plenty of heat, but more from the ballast than the actual bulb. You can get extra growth because the color of the light using the fluoros, CFL and MH lights is more conducive to vegetative plant growth, but it isn't much more at all due to the disparity of lumen output. Over many many grows I have found its just easier to use HPS all the way through the cycles, no bulbs to change and the yields are virtually the same.

I use MH lighting 24/7 on my mother plants and DO use some fluoro when cloning cuttings.

Cfl's for vegging and HPS for flowering along with 2700k cfls.If you have an interchangeable ballast, use mh during vegging.then swith bulb to the hps for flowering and put 2700k cfls wherever needed.

Have found that combo spectrum works great. In veg- one 1000 watt MH and a 400watt HPS. I also have a 1000watt MH in Flower room amongst several 1000 watt HPS's.
Plants that do best are usually recieving both spectrums. Have flowered under just MH, just HPS and just T5's. All with good results. Best results have been with a mix. there is a 1000 watt MH in flower room in vid. sorry for crummy embedding. still learning.

T5's for vegetation. Period!

Hell! You can even switch out the spectrum and flower a SOG with T5's.

On my moms I use daylight tubes, 24/7 supplemented with 400w/mv at 18/6hr. A mercury vapour bulb is much like a mh but frosted. My moms seemed happier with the mv. I use cool white tubes for my cloning bin.
