What is happening to this sativas top bud?

OK! here is the problem plant... this is a plant of the same strain, grown side by side all their lives, same height everything.... they are under a 1000 watt hps, not getting any nutes just straight tap water. they are a month and a half into budding and this just started happening 2-3 weeks ago. its not like this on just the top bud, all the other ones are showing signs of getting all fucked up to. my friend has no idea what is going on and i told him i might know a special group of people that maaaaay be able to help!!! im guessing heat stress.

could just be genetics, if all else is equal it sounds like genetics. try giving her some nutes. that what i am doing, Roots Organic and plain water for life to see what happens.

nope, not genes, looks like they're going through the process of re-vegging. Maybe light leak isn't giving the right kind of night light they need (too much light for nighttime) or you just need to drop the hrs of light per day they get. 12/12 is normal, but its not impossible for a strain to possibly need 10/14 or so.

on second glance it could possibly be a super super sativa.

haha its definately not a super sativa, its actually a pretty weak strain. but the light leaks sound about right. my friends baby fucked with his timer and his light flashed on for 30 minutes intervals, 3 times a night for only 2 nights, but thats enough to mess up its cycle right? will it fill out or should we cut the fucked up top part off or what?

I believe that's what some people call "crowning"? I had a sativa that did that, I attributed it to the heat of summer. I wonder if too much heat and dry air causes the flower to "open up" more, whereas a cooler and more humid environment might cause them to condense? Probably both, genetics and environment, but I'm still learnin'

Crowning is a bit different (at least the way I was taught). Crowning is when you get a section toward the top that is nothing but main stalk with no side growth at all and then a cluster of multiple nodes at the tip. What is happening here I believe is called "fox-tailing and there are a number of factors that could cause it. I would assume light leak or light schedule since thats the most likely reason in this case. He doesn't need any special crap to fix it like desert07 says. Not trying to be a dick but if he is telling you that you need this product and it will take care of it, he doesn't know what he is talking about. I'm not saying it's a bad idea to add something he is recommending, I'm saying it's bad to think your problems will be cured by a supplement. Just be cautious and use lots of common sense when carrying out advice given in these forums.

i tend to try to not lean on products anyway. they just make your shit better, but if u cant grow without the extra stuff, it just makes your shit so much better! but ya, his plants have been through shit, so its gotta be stress. i havnt seen the plants recently but last i saw it still looked the same, and wasnt filling in at all. i kinda take what people say and give in advice on here and go research it further anyways, i figured theres alot of wrong info on this site. but crowning, never heard of that before...

I was suggesting using r/o water instead of tap water which contains impurities and metals. I wasn't Telling him to use humic acid to fix his plants, I was only adding that in for future reference. Humic acid is not an additive by the way.. Didn't mean to come across as one of those fix your plants with products guy, they can only make it better if your plants are already healthy. Just do your research on humic acid, and see what I'm talking about..

Its not getting light. May be too far away or not the rite spectrum. If you can switch to MH bulb it may fix it and make it fatten up.
