A mixture of the two. Compost must actually be composted before adding.

I would also agree. I do a pro mix BX /compost, ( sheep manure) and some coco coir and perlite. Usually good for a few weeks before Nutrients are needed , Good luck .

It's probably good advice to mix the soil up a few week before but you don't have too.
you can still get great results from mixing the soil up and potting up at the same time, I alway soak the root mass and then drop the plant into dry soil, the dry soil draws the water from root mass and the roots follow, the roots/plants grow really quick.
