what is the easiest/safest way to germinate seeds?

Hey everyone. I have 2 autoflower seeds. I have 1 afghan kush ryder and 1 northern lights blue. I will be growing in ocean forest soil. I will be using a 150w hps light with some cfl as side lighting. This will be in a closet grow. So what would be the best way to germinate these seeds? I have tried the paper towel way, not much success. So should I just germinate straight into soil since autos dont like to be transplanted or should I use root riot cubes? I even seen I can germinate seeds in a small cup of 100% vermiculite. any ideas or comments would really help.

If the seed coat is thick, germimg in a paper towel sometimes isn't enough for moisture to penetrate. Soaking in a glass of water over night prior to paper towel or cheese cloth ensures the seed has enough moisture for the taproot to form. Any more than 24 hrs of soaking may cause rot or water logging and stunt growth.

I like to soak until the seed sinks, if it's been more than 24 hrs and its still floating, gently tap it with your finger and it should sink. Afterwards, place it between a moist paper towel or cheese cloth on a dinner plate , drain all access water and stick in a dark place with a temp of 70-80 degrees Fahrenheit.

Once it cracks and the taproot emerges, try to put the cloth in a slightly vertical position so the taproot grows down away from the seed casing. Wait until its a 1/4 in long before planting.

Works for me every time, hope this helps and good luck!

Lots of opinions on this. I don't like to handle my seedlings at all. I soak them in water for a minimum of 6 hours even if they sink but not longer than 24. Then plant 1/4" deep in soil they should pop in 2-5 days. I would not plant them directly into FFOF though, use something more mild at least for top layer in the pot. Lots of ways to complicate this process. Keep it simple IMO.

I agree ^^^^^^.

I put my seeds in a wet paper towel, then sealed them in a ziplock baggy and put them in a drawer with a heating pad set on low. They popped in a day and half.
