Over watering comes from how often you water not the quantity of water used. Think of a sponge used to wash dishes whether you pour a gallon or five gallons on it, it'll only hold so much water and the rest will run off and in a few days it'll be dry. Take the same sponge and 5 gallons of water, but only use a half gallon a day and that sponge is gonna be sopping wet for a couple of weeks. That's where the problems come from. I agree with jypsy dog, don't go by a schedule get the feeling of weight while the soil's dry and water it before it gets to that point. Hopefully this makes sense.
