What Keeps Killing My Seedlings?

I'm having some real trouble getting my seedlings past the three or four day mark. Most recently, I have a seedling that I started in a Solo cup under a plastic bag, which sprouted several inches in its first day. I put it under four 27 watt 5000k CFLs, but they weren't close enough and the stalk stretched a bit thin. I supported the stalk by burying it up to the first set of leaves and moved the lights closer, but now the leaves seem to be shrinking away from the light. Could it be too intense or hot? I'd really appreciate some advice - thanks!

Sorry I don't have pictures - there's really nothing to see, just a small pair of leaves that seem to be wilting away from the light.

I'm new to this myself but, it sound like you have to much light at the wrong "spectrum". I have 5, 1 week old seedlings that I have under 2, 26 watt (100 watt equivalent) cfls that are 6500k. Do a search on here for lighting. From what I understand, anything between 3000 to 5500 k is kinda worthless for growing. 6000k and up for veg (more blue light) and 3000k (more red light) or less for flower.

It's your grow, get a themometer and see, is it too hot? Most folk just put their hand above the plant and gague based on whether it's hot for their hand.

What is your lighting schedule?

How far away is your light in inches?

How often are you watering?

What grow medium are you using?

No nutrients right?

Why the plastic bag?

Thats what i do, don't even pay attention to the thermometer. It is possible that you're overwatering and the stem is rotting. Is your soil heavy? You should really post pics, otherwise all we can do is guess.
