What method should I use for switching from veg to flowering?

I have looked all over and cant seem to find a solid concensus on this. Do I have to have 24 hours of no light before switching to 12/12 or does it matter?

if you just go to 12 12, youll be fine. there is no 24 hours of darness in nature unless you are in alaska on dec 25th

the lights out is done to help root production so its really personal choice...some say do it some say it doesnt matter...

24 hours darkness will trigger flowering faster but it is not necessary. I would just switch from 24/0 to 12/12.

I've been wondering about that. I always just switch mine to 12/12, but would like to test this theory someday. It would be cool to know for sure that the 24 hour dark period really does speed up flowering.

I've heard the hype, now has anyone actually tested this on plants of the same strain? Hmm....maybe i should create a thread, asking that specifically? I think I will.

The best way to speed up flowering period is to wait until the plant is mature or showing pre flowers. Then the plant is ready and it wont take long, people normally put the plants under 12/12 before being mature so the plant is forced to rush puberty and flower at the same time. You dont need the dark period you just need to wait until the plant is ready to flower before changing the lights. Otherwise just wait another day or two its natural it will happen with no help at all. Takes longer to flower for young plant because you are asking it to be sexually active pre puberty so it takes longer. good luck !!

Ahhh, that makes sense. Mine always show pre-flowers at about 3 weeks or so, and I put them on 12/12 at 4 weeks, so I'm good to go. Cool, thanks for the info.

That would apply mainly to the guys who start from seed. Correct?

thats the thing with growing in doors under lights, u will always be limited for space. In an ideal world its best to wait for pre-flowers but it wont hurt em any to switch em now. Good luck with ya grow man:joint::mrgreen:

oh yeah they will probably double if not treble in size during flower, hope u got room left mate.

No kidding man! Last night was the first night of 12/12 and I couldnt believe how much they grew over night. Really filling out nicely and three of them are already showing hairs!

I have enough room for the plants to be able to double in size without having to make any modifications. We'll see how it goes.

Migh be worth looking into LST ( low stress training ) if they get too big i can bend them out the way wich will open more of the plant up to the light.

yeah good call. I'm gonna have to move them into a bigger grow area. I'll post some picks tomorrow and show you the mess i'm dealing with...
