Hey, that first response (tiptop toker)is sorta right. Assuming your in soil then yes, it is correct, a good soil, with adequate drainage will be more than enough for a first grow.
However assuming your not in soil a good liquid fert will be needed. (You could buy dry salt ferts but maybe tricky to mix/dissolve.)
but yeah, if your in soil why bother.
If i were you id buy a bag of soil, a bag of perlite. Some pots and a watering can. Even spring for the saucers for under the pots.
I would also look up your water report so you have an idea what your tap water is like. Hard or soft, full of sodium or full of chloride etc.
I would recommend some form of epsom salts incase the soil you get has a small amount of Mg in it, like bio-bizz all mix for example, which gets used up quickly. But you probably wont need it.
But if you got say M.G. (Miraclegrow) you probably wont need anything other than water.
